TUESDAY--
I get up and head to work after stopping to see Scotty. I am pretty proud, strutting around, barely able to keep my mind off of just wanting to be back at the hospital with Kelly. But finally, I get to go. I stop off at the house to find TED leaving for the weekend to see a friend. So I leave the cats some food and head to the hospital.
All night, we periodically stop in. Around 11pm, we try to stop in but are hushed away saying that they will come talk to us. Kelly, understandably, is beside herself in worry and grief. Whats wrong with our baby? Why isn't he getting better at breathing?
At 11:30, a nurse comes in and tells us that he is not eating and keeping food down, nor is he breathing room oxygen levels properly, so they want to transfer him to BRONSON Hosipital in Kalamazoo 50 miles away. After we sign consent, Kelly and I try to talk and keep our sorrows in check, which took quite a while. But the nurses came to discharge us and we packed all our things and I loaded up the car and headed home, to repack new clothes, drop off soiled ones and re-feed the cats. Cause we fully intended to follow Scotty to Kalamazoo to this new hospital. I was beside myself with grief, stress, worry and fear. Kelly, about 100 times that.
When I got back to the hospital, Bronson ambulance was there and was going over everything. Right away, they noticed things that Lakeland Hospital was screwing up with him. Also everyone was nice, professional and very accomodating for us. They even said they had a spare room we could stay in. I really did feel better. But they said that likely, he'll be in the hospital for "a few weeks."
My heart sank.
Before he was loaded into the carrier to go on the ambulance, Kelly got to hold him for the first time. It wasn't the most memorable of times, because of all the tubes and chords running in and out of him. He was restless and tired, angry, understandably. But she got her five minutes and in he went. and out the Emergency room doors we left. We followed the ambulance into the night and arrived in Kalamazoo at 4:30am. We located BRONSON and parked and were immediately greeted really warmly, by EVERYONE! Even janitors. We got a nice quiet room with comfy, COMFY beds to lay on. We dropped off our stuff and were lead up to the floor where Scotty was.
Once there, we saw 6 nurses dancing around him, getting the proper facts, taking more tests and actually EXPLAINING everything they were doing to him! We felt very involved. They also talked to him and treated him like a HUMAN BEING, which is far better than the other hospital. Within 10 minutes of being there, the knots in my stomach went away. I really did feel secure that Scotty was going to be fine.
Finally, after everything calmed down, and Scotty fell asleep, we spent some quiet time with him. He was sleeping soundly in his plastic box and we reached in to touch him. No gloves. Finally, we stumbled down to our room in pure exhaustion at around 6:30 am, and passed right out!
WEDNESDAY (part 1)---
We get up and head up to see scotty at around 11am. To our surprise, he's already 100% better! He;s actually breathing room oxygen levels and everything is very stable. I am amazed at the efficiency and professionalism exhibitied by the staff here at bronson.
After spending an hour with Scott, Kelly and I went in search of a hotel for my parents, who are coming up at midnight tonight. We located one nearby and we stopped for some Arbys for ourselves. Then we headed to Walgreens to get some supplies and then back to the hospital. Immediately, we check on Scotty again, who is still stable. Its feeding time so we get to observe. At one point, I get to hold in his binky and even lift him up so we can cover him in blankets. First time I ever got to hold him....sorta. Then we retired back to the room.
I tried to boot up our comp, but it wasn't working. Apparently while using the wireless at Lakeland Hospital, we got a virus in our portable PC. (Yet anotehr thing they screwed up). Kelly spends an hour on the phone with a Dell worker and we bascially reboot the system from scratch.....losing everything we had on it in the process, natch. I update blogs and send out emails to everyone about whats going on.
In a few minutes, we're going to go back up and see him again. I'll repost the rest of the day's events after that point. If you can.. I will ask you all a favor. Even though he is not in any danger, I would still ask for all my pals and friends out there to send some prayers/positive thoughts his way, to ensure that his recovery is speedy and without further complication. I'll take all I can get. But rest assured, THERE IS NO DANGER! There's nothing to worry about. I just simply ask that maybe you toss some positive thoughts his way for me. I don't know what difference that will make, but to me, it would mean a fuck of a lot.
I'll repost again late tonight with another update.
Much luv, T
