A quick music break.

Got the new TRANSATLANTIC album yesterday finally (and a full week before its official release date)! You may remember me posting about my excitement about this release back in May of this year.

Overall, it is a great progressive rock geekgasm. Starts extremely strong and then sorta wavers toward the end. And of course, the Neal Morse lyrics are easily identifiable based on subject matter! :) But overall, its a great, great, great CD. The real stars this time I think are Portnoy's drumming and Trewavas' bass playing. Much better. Neal and Roine pretty much give you what you expect. I got the 3 disc thing and haven't dissected the second disc of jams/covers yet. The DVD alone is worth the price of this 3 disc package. I like this one better than the old one, where it went song by song. This one goes day by day and sees more of the process of laying it out and figuring out parts. And you can tell that after a 7 year hiatus that the guys were having alot of fun recording and being together again.

No letter grade yet. Just enjoying it for the moment. After full few listens and look at the second disc, and the inevitable comparisons to the first two are weighed in my mindgrape, then maybe a letter grade. But right now just gonna enjoy it.

Man, alot of good new CDs out this year. U2, Megadeth, The Beatles remasters, Pearl Jam, Dream Theater and supposed new releases from STP and Rob Zombie on the horizon soon. Such a good time for a classic music fan like me. All modern radio music sucks it.
