Final thoughts on all things Twilight...

Okay. The girls hath spoken. #1 movie in sales in one day of all time. (Of course, could be akin to the rising ticket prices, natch) Never underestimate the power of tween girls.

I've examined my thoughts on this all weekend since we had sorta a debate on it on thursday's podcast run. And I've come to this conclusion: I have no problem with Twilight as a concept. The gal wrote some books, they are making gillians of dollars and more power to her. Awesome in fact. Despite the liberties with "traditional" vampire fiction, I couldn't care less about it really. Its not what bothers me about the thing. It even could be argued that its not vampire fiction, more than its just a romantic story. Okay, give you that one.

What bothers me is the people that like it surely cause of the hotties in it. Like the gals who went to see Lord of the Rings, just cause of Orlando Bloom. Squealed when he was onscreen, and we couldn't hear dialog. I first encountered this phenomena when I saw TMNT2: The Secret of the Ooze. (yeah, I saw that in the theater!) and these three girls in front of me stood up and danced and screamed when Vanilla Ice came onscreen. And these weren't just rude people interrupting my movie (which was crap anyway), it was the start of a movement that I was unaware of. And I maintain that that is the only reason why TITANIC is the #1 film in sales of all time. Not cause its great, but because of the girlies. I know a girl who saw it in the theater 6 times. No joke. SIX TIMES!!!!!!! You know how long that damn movie is?

At comic con this past year, there were girls camped out in front of the hall and outside to get in line for Friday's TWILIGHT NEW MOON panel. Like, days in advance to ensure that they'd get in there to see the panel. And when the panel started, they brought out the two hottie dudes and everyone screamed from then on out. Never heard a word. Why go to a panel you cannot hear? Why stay in line for days to endure that? Also during actual screenings of New Moon, same thing. Scream every time one of the guys are on screen. Can't hear the flick. And I heard a news story that two girls were caught masterbating in New Moon this past weekend.

These guys in Twilight do something to the female mind. I'm sure of it. We sell craploads of the Twilight candy, games, action figures, bracelets and cards at work. And the girls are friggin nuts over it. Girls aged 12-30. They have to brace for orgasm as they pull out their money to pay for this stuff. Its quite funny. Luckily my wife isn't into these hottie dudes or else I'd be in deep shit. (Or maybe she is... and keeping it secret.. I dunno) ;)

Anyway, despite all this I am now adopting a new policy: I am no longer going to acknowledge Twilight. Over the next two years there will be the final two movies and then it will go away. So for now girls (and boys!), have your fun. Its okay. I salute you in your love of Twilight. Enjoy the hell out of it. I'm gonna stop bitching about it. I just thought I neeeded to clarify why I am initially against it. But I've determined its not for me. So just enjoy it yourself and don't try to convert me. And I won't convert you into reading Invincible. Deal?

_______________

Okay, now that that is settled lets move on to real life! I got the morning off today. Gonna catch up on coloring pages. Gonna lay flats today. Maybe do some doodling. I work 3-11 tonight. Then all next week off. My goal is to get ANNA done! And then start on Expendables #3 in December.

My commission sale is still on. $20 for an 8.5x11 with a free comic and print... and free shipping. 1-5 characters. Simply paypal $20.00 to phymns@yahoo.com and get the best Xmas present ever!

Okay, nuff for now. Goodbye my children of the night...

I agree with much in your post, including the over excitement of young girls who watched "Titanic".

However, I do want to say that I am a fan of the movie, but more from a "historical human drama/tragedy" perspective. Sure, it's wrapped in the fictional story of Leonardo and Kate, but there is much historical accuracy in the movie. It holds my interest because of the fact that much of what is depicted did happen. There is also a slight chance it could spur some people into researching the story further.

I guess my point is that I see "Titanic" as a bit more than just a complete fictional romance (like "Twilight"). "Titanic" has a fairly large basis in actual events and characters.
