I've been finding lately that the more vocal I am about something I do not like, or am not into at all, the more backlash I get. But its an odd type of backlash. For example, I'll say TWILIGHT. Its not for me. Okay? Harry Potter. Its not for me. M'kay? So sometimes, I'll make offhand comments about it to friends of mine who do not like it. and some of them get downright mad at me for making such comments. Like, "Don't make fun of the thing I like." etc. etc.
Why ya'll so uptight? Look, I've had to endure years of people saying I'm a nerd for liking comics, or Star Trek. But I didn't get all defensive. Go ahead. Say "Picard's a fag." I don't give a crap. I'll just be over here enjoying the thing you do not like. Say what you want to get your aggression out. I---Do----Not----CARE. Not at all. It doesn't effect the things I like one bit. I like things I like. So as you like things that you like. In that, we're different and human. Thats a good thing.
So what does it matter if I say that if you like Twilight, you're a twelve year old girl?
The reason I say that is because it is most popular among younger female fans. thats why I say that. I have a statistical FACT to back up my claim. Sure, its a generalization, but it is more oftentimes true. Its the TITANIC syndrome all over again. I do not like that film because of the Dicaprio thing that was happening at the time. (Plus the plot was contrived, I didn't care about the whiny characters, historical innacuracies, etc...but I digress...) Another reason I do not like TWILIGHT is because its not accurate to Vampire fiction. It takes alot of liberites. With the daylight, the sparkle, etc. Sure, you as a creator can take liberties. Nothing wrong with that. But to call it Vampire fiction is innaccurate. FRIGHT NIGHT is vampire fiction. And lastly, I don't like it because of its popularity, its spawning all of these clones in movies, tv and comics. So now I know that I will have to endure a few years of this, just like I endured a few years of bad zombie fiction. Just cause it has an apple in it, doesn't make ALL OF IT Applesauce!
But I think the root comes in a persons personality. If they can handle ribbing. And it is friendly ribbing. When I like someone, I tease them a bit. I'm a guy. I like locker room talk. If I do not like a person or thing, I simply do not acknowledge it. Like I've never once mentioned Amy Winehouse. Because I do not like her. I haven't bought her CDs, nor have I thought to mention her in a blog post about how much I do not like her. I used to go off on hating this or that celebrity, but in reality, it was the CELEBRITY WORSHIP that was at fault. Not the person being worshipped. But to fight against that mentality in America of the modern day is as futile as me going on a diet.
I know a few sports fans that even if you just slightly give them crap about their favorite teams, they get really, really mad. Its okay. Its just a sports team. I didn't just talk about your mom here. Its just a sports team. or its just a movie or TV show. Its okay. Its okay. Calm down.
So I dunno what to think. I guess its hard to rib anyone for anything for fear of offense. But I will say that you can go ahead and make fun of the things I love. Cause I don't give a fuck. I can take it. But you cannot. ITs all a joke and in good fun. But you don't like fun. So I'll just be over here.
Anyone with me?

Wait a second - Is there redundancy in an extended complaint about how people complain about complaints? I know you are blowing off some steam and just voicing a single geeks opinion, but I couldn't help buck chuckle as I read the post. I got a kick out of it.
Yes, perhaps I am indeed being facetious...
