When you're in constant motion, its sometimes hard to know when to stop.
The artist sacrifices alot for their craft. Mostly time and body. The back and butt hurts from sitting in the chair all day. The eyes hurt from staring at the screen too much. The hand cramps up. You gain weight by snacking. You lose precious time with your significant other and your offspring.
Believe me, I am not complaining. I got the greatest job in the world and its full of very loyal fans. (Thank you very much!) But also you gotta know when to take a break. So every week now I am proposing a night to myself. Just to sit and watch a DVD or three. No chair, no art table. Just me and a night off. The wife enjoys that cause that means she doesn't have to sleep alone. So thats what I did last night. Even though I worked all day on stuff in the office and made my new TO DO list that is a mile long, I took the night off.
Even last night I was discussing my fatigue with the wife saying that I want to take a month off from drawing. And I said that even knowing that I would not, could not. I love it too much. The commissions and hired work is finally pouring in regularly and its feeding my family. I cannot stop, nor do I want to. Would I rather work 40 hours a week at a job I hate or do what I am doing now? BY FAR I would stick with my current situation. And its looking like thats gonna last a while for my lifetime.
While my dedication to my craft and to those who enjoy my work is strong as ever, I must admit that I do need a "night off" sometimes. So I shall strive to take a night or two a week to myself and spend it with the wife watching movies. One of my great passions. Just to sit and veg out at a movie. Refreshes the visual brain and side of what I do. Feels good. It was my first passion.
It was only after I went to college and started to dissect and analyze things to construct my own things from its remains that I became a bitter, angry, cynical person. A recent South Park discusses this mentality. And I've ranted about it on Twitter as well. How we have really become obsessed with naysaying things before experiencing it. How cynical we are to everything that we are exposed to, good and bad. How each of us now has an outlet for our stupid little opinions and are looking for internet high fives. It sickens me at times. You cannot experience a hurtful or horrid thing without some joker coming in and pissing on the party. I'm finding that I am at the point to where that sort of thing really gets to me and derails my thought process on a thing experienced. Take for example Gay Marriage. It was just approved to be legal for gays to marry in New York. A wonderful thing! Something people have been fighting to gain for years, decades. And along with the congratulations came the jokes. I guess its how humanity reacts to things now. Its how we process things. We cannot just accept what is without cynicism. Its how we handle it all now.
Me? I try to just give a base reaction and move on down the trail, that is IF I feel I should react. To some things, there is no concern or consequence if I had an opinion on it or not. However, this is a double edged sword for me. I am the face of my "business". Moreover, people expect to be entertained by me and my personality, and that is what would draw them to my work. As an artist I am trying to evolve to where the work speaks alone. The best artists throughout time have this. They don't need to explain what it is, or where it comes from. Thats for everyone else to decide. One day. One day. I am getting there.
I guess these are just my current thoughts for the day. As I work on, I realize that perhaps finally I got my head on straight. I can still laugh and joke and see humor in tragedy and just enjoy other people reacting. I don't have to. I don't have to bring myself there in my head. Moreover, I am finding this thing I had lost somewhere when my adult life began. I somehow lost my ability to be stoked on everything. Like, "wow! Check out this band!" Or "Wow! That movie was awesome!" Even if the reviews were bad. I just have been striving to rid myself of the negativity in my life. And its working. Its finally working. If the right arm causes me to stumble, I am learning to cut it off and throw it away from me. My life is too short to be so concerned with people or things that don't deserve to be an issue in my life. Thats my motto right there.
Now if only I could find some peace while I am driving. I have terrible road rage...
T
---To elaborate on what I just said: Its too cool a time in the world to be angry at all! It seems as though we are finally evolving as a people, a place. Things are looking up. If you ignore all the politics and the argumentative, cynical little people, its just a great time to be alive! Never let that leave your mind, and you will do well.

U2 360 Tour Night - East Lansing, MI 6-26-11

Well, its midnight. I'm back from seein' U2 for the second time. The show was great. Filled with lots from Actung Baby, Joshua Tree, Atomic Bomb and more. Not a whole lot from the newer album. Spartan Stadium was PACKED! A full 2.5 hours of music. I'll expand on some thoughts about it further, but for now LETS JUST MAKE WITH THE PICS!

Goings On....
Hey gang. Its been quiet this week but I stayed productive! Earlier this week I finished the CBLDF cards and mailed them out back to Cryptozoic. Here's a look at a few of them:

Once again, major thanks to Cryptozoic for allowing aboard that set. Lets hope this opens the doors for other sketch card gigs for me. More on that later.
In other news this week, I worked on 2 pages of ANNA 2 and inks on ANNA. Scanned pages and then colored about seven pages from SECRET PROJECT X. Today I worked on two more pages for that as well. I plan on doing more tonight too. We'll see what the wind blows me and the art gods will bless me with.
Tomorrow I will pencil some more on ANNA and PROJECT X and stay on schedule. Also I got a few side pieces to finish. No problem.
Also sometime tonight I am posting more art here on the site to sell. Also I am putting some things on ebay for sale. Just trying to raise some funds to get SECRET PROJECT X and other stuff off the ground. Plus pay bills. Busy guy! Busy busy...
Tomorrow after all that is the U2 concert, natch. I am looking forward to that immensely. I've had the 360 stage as my desktop wallpaper all week. I'm ready. Ready for the push. ZOO STATION!!!!!!!
Those who know, know.
Anyway, I am off. So much time, so little to do! (Strike that, reverse it)

THINGS MY TWO YEAR OLD DOES Part 84
Welcome to another edition of "Things my Two Year Old Does." So my son is interested in suckers now. He craves them, begs for them and then when he finally gets one, he sucks on it for about 30 seconds and deposits it in strategic places. Like such:

Right on the couch. Yes.
Earlier today I found one in the wife's hairbrush. No joke. I shoulda took a pic of that. I guess its time to leave him at home with the wife if I ever need to go to the bank.

Exciting weekend to come!!!
Got an exciting weekend ahead of me. I am starting to get caught up on art, Sketch Cards are done and in fed ex back to Cryptozoic and life is good!
Decided to drive past the Spartan Stadium today and saw to my surprise, they were already assembling the large concert stage for U2:

I know, its far away and over the trees. A small pic from the phone. Sorry about that. But still, exciting. We're excited. Cause very soon, (this Sunday in fact) it will look like this:

Lastly, I am reading that the set list will be round about to run with these songs:

No "BAD?" My favorite U2 song? Bummer. But still, color me excited. I last saw them in 2001. It was a great tour. And I saw their Rock Hall of Fame exhibit back in 2003-2004. A great time. I'm a hardcore fan. It will be great to see them again.
So thats my Sunday. I promise to take lots of pics. But my Friday should be interesting. Its my wife's friends' birthday and so they are all going out, but coming back here for a party. Should be fun all around. In the meantime, I plan on just drawing, hanging with the family and taking it easy. I deserve a break I think. But finishing a few more Anna pages would be great as well!
Either later tonight or tomorrow, I am putting up some more original art for sale right here like I did a couple weeks ago. Select what you want, email me and then pay me for it if I say its available. No problem. Then EVERYTHING will get mailed out by Monday at the latest. I promise. I know some people are waiting for packages from me. There's hardcore construction in my area in Lansing, and I have to get out and get mailing supplies. The way to get them is a pain in the ass to get to. But I will trek out this weekend and score some. No worries! Thanks for the patience folks. Love ya!
Anyway, I got a long day of artwork ahead of me. Cheers!

Inside My Head
Saw THIS BLOG POST today and it blew me away. Its EXACTLY how I am!! Give a read folks. Its like this book described me to a T. Glad to know that I am normal. And now the wife can finally understand me a bit as well. ;)
Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.
Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.
Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.
Myth #3 – Introverts are rude.
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.
Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people.
On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.
Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.
Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.
Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.
Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.
Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.
Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds.
Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them.
Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun.
Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.
Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts.
A world without Introverts would be a world with few scientists, musicians, artists, poets, filmmakers, doctors, mathematicians, writers, and philosophers. That being said, there are still plenty of techniques an Extrovert can learn in order to interact with Introverts. (Yes, I reversed these two terms on purpose to show you how biased our society is.) Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

In other news, I got only 5 sketch cards to go on the CBLDF set. World record? And no repeats or simple quick sketch cards. All in color or well inked/pencilled. YAY! I should be finished by tonight.
Re-reading my favorite comic series called "PREACHER" out of DC Vertigo. I usually re-read that and TRANSMETROPOLITAN every two years. I'm reminded of how awesome this series is. Very inspiring.
I scanned the first 25 pages of ANNA 2 into the computer this week. Coloring will begin soon.

JACKASS star RYAN DUNN R.I.P.

Its odd. I woke up this morning and immediately in my head something said "check the news. Someone famous who you like is dead." Its odd that I am so in tune with whatever it is out there that I knew that ahead of time. Checked CNN, YAHOO and came up nothing. Thought I was crazy. and then Twitter gave me the news. Unreal.
I am a hardcore JACKASS fan. I have everything related to it. All the dvds and more. The wife and I drink and watch it all the time. Ryan Dunn was always one of my favorites of the boys. Its hard to see it come to such a sudden, tragic end for him like that. My heart goes out to Bam and his family as well. They grew up as childhood friends. They were wisked off on this magic carpet ride of a hell of a life that lasted well over a decade on MTV and in major motion pictures. An amazing life. A treacherous one. But man, you cannot say that those guys haven't LIVED. They lived a lifetime and beyond in the short years they have been with us. So young. Only 34 years old.
I can't get it out of my head. All day I've been flashing to skits and stunts he did in the movies and shows. Its odd too cause the wife and I just watched Jackass 3.5 the other night and were watching WILDBOYZ last night even. We're just hardcore fans. Devestated, doesn't cover it.
Its odd to attach such emotion on a person whom you never have and will never meet. I guess I am happy I was entertained by a person for so long. Its horrible when they are ripped away in the blink of an eye. And yeah, I know people are gonna say things like "he shoulda died a long time ago with all the shit they do!" and "Stupid to drive 100 mph in a car drunk!" Yeah, I see that. You gotta understand they live the life of no fear and now its this. Perhaps this will wake up them and their copycat fans that the hard life can take you down sometimes. It sucks. and it sucks that he might be a reminder of that. Cause he deserves better. He was one of the best of them. And if indeed JACKASS is over forever (as it looks to have been anyway after the intimate closing in part 3D), then I would be fine with that. But at least I got the memories. and hours and hours of footage to relive again and again. Its a gift that is left behind when someone I like goes. At least we have that.
Sorry this isn't a well thought out posting. I'm just bummed, pissed and a tad sick to the stomach. May not seem like a big deal to some of you, but to me it is. RIP Dunn. You were the best.

FATHERS DAY.
And a Happy Father's Day to all my sperm donating dads out there! (fist bump) to all of you!
I'm spending mine nicely. I took the family out to Toys R Us and got the bots some tugboat tub toys and M&Ms. Then to Culvers. The wife is now watching the bots so I can get some artworking and other stuff done. To prime my brain, I am doing a quick blogpost. Hence all this. Dig? I hope so. :)
Bots is doing good. He's so smart and clever. The stuff he stacks and rigs up to get what he wants astounds me. Also he's quite fluent at using my ipad. I guess I gotta get a new one for ME! Yes.
My other son the Codester is done with school and got high honors and great grades! Even got him a nice certificate signed by Barack Obama:

Congrats dude! You earned a nice summer off! Way to go!!
Today I just went to the copy place and shrunk new ANNA 2 and SECRET PROJECT X pages and I am gonna be scanning those into the computer. The first 25 pages of ANNA 2 will be ready for post-production. I drew three new ANNA 2 pages last night as well. I also hope to rock on some more cards today. I only got one day job shift this week so I plan to stay busy and get caught up on stuff I need to get done. Wish me luck. No more blogging. Off I go!
Have a great week everyone!!

FILMING LOCATIONS.
One thing people don't know alot about me is that I LOVE museums and famous locations. In fact, I have a bucket list of filming locations I'd love to visit one day. In 2006, the wife and I visited one of my main targets, the CLERKS, CHASING AMY and JAY & SILENT BOB filming locations. Photos of which you can see Here. I also visited the DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) Mall Location several times. But here's a list of others that I hope to one day go see.

VASQUEZ ROCKS -- Um.... DUH!!!!!!!!!! Anyone know me here? This rock formation outside of Los Angeles has been host to many film and Tv shoots. But one in particular that interests me. That being STAR TREK! Its been in the films, practically all the series, especially the original series. Its one of the only locations from the original series that you can actually go visit. Yes. One day....

ROCKY LOCATIONS - Philadelphia, PA. I am a HUGE Rocky film fan and luckily, there's tons of locations you can still visit. From his house, the pet shop, Micks Gym, various places he ran by but the main one is this: The ROCKY STEPS! I hope to run up these one day.

PSYCHO HOUSE/BATES MOTEL - Universal Studios. At Universal Studios you can tour many old sets (Including Back to the Future... whats left of it after a lot fire) and props. But you can see the actual old Psycho House and the Bates Motel. Very cool! I doubt you can walk around in it though. Its sorta on this bus tour ride where you cannot get out and look around. But still, would be very cool to see.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE locations. Kingsland/Austin, TX Many of the locations from TCM are in Texas and recently I very much considered going to them, but missed the opportunity. You can visit the old gas station, the graveyard and the old location where the house once stood. The house has since been bought, moved 40 miles away and made into a restaurant. However the look and feel of the house is still intact and the owners embrace the fact of its history. I'd love to go have some Texas barbque in the Chainsaw house!

MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE! - EL PASO, TX. I know.. "WHAT?!?!!?" Its a cult favorite of mine and believe it or not, some of the locations still exist. The alter and pillars where the master and his wives hung out are all there as well as what remains of Torgo and the Master's house. Of course it is a shell of a house now and in a great state of disrepair. But it can be identified and visited.
Hon. Mentions: Nakatomi Building from Die Hard. Evans Cemetary from Night of the Living Dead. Any studio lot tour (especially Paramount lot studio 9. Take a guess...). Too many others to list here. (sigh) one day I hope to get an TV and just drive to all the coolest places in the USA, including these places. I'd love that.

More thoughts on Kickstarter
I had a dream last night about Kickstarter. Odd thing isn't it? I had a dream that I went ahead and did it and far surpassed my original goal set (which I haven't figured out yet). How much does it mean for someone at my level to be "successful?" Also, how do I not short change myself and be realistic at the same time? Thats a tough call. For me, I'd like to just cover my funding, at base. Luckily, I got you folks that have guided and supported me throughout the years. And its grown and grown each year. So I am still leaving it up to you. Do I do one of the following options:
A-Do the old thing I usually do with new projects and do pre-orders for each one but also offer them in a "packet" type of deal, like ordering a Value Meal at a burger joint and you pick what you want and 100% chance that you will get it and it will be timely to when you order it.
B-Do Kickstarter and take the chance that your pledge might get erased and you'll have to buy it anyway, but make the effort to help raise funds for me and my projects?
I see the potential in both really. But I'll go with what the vast majority of you folks decide. Here are my ideas for packets (pledge amount and the reward): (all shipping would be free in the USA)
$5 - Gratitude and a digital download of ANNA 1 or PLEASANT LIFE GN
$10 - More Gratitude, Digital Download and a website plug on mine
$20 - Either ANNA 2 or ARTBOOK with a sketch inside.
$50 - Both ANNA 2 and ARTBOOK w/sketches and exclusive 11x17 Adam's characters print
$75 - Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD that has documentary/interview with me, art lesson, watch me draw, studio tour, etc.
$100 - Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD, Original art page from ANNA 2.
$150 - Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD, Anna 2 Art Page and 11x17 full color commission.
$200 - Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD, Anna 2 Page, 11x17 commission and you get to be a character in Anna 2 and you are brutally killed in action! (your original art page given would have you on it)
$300 - Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD, TWO Anna 2 pages (one with you on it), 11x17 commission, Personalized DVD recording of me making your commission and talking to you during the recording of that footage.)
$400 - All of the above but instead of 11x17 commission, its 20x30, full color! Plus a phone call from me, THREE pages from ANNA 2.
$500 - "FAN FOR LIFE STATUS" -- Meaning that you would get Every book, print, dvd, action figure, shirt, poster, etc that I would ever commercially release through my website from this point forward absolutely free for LIFE! (Meaning til either me or you expire from this mortal coil) Would include Anna 2, Artbook, Print, DVD and one 11x17 commission a year from me as well. Never would have to pay for shipping either. Only two other people in the history of my career have this status and they love it!
$1000 - "FAN FOR LIFE STATUS", all the above and Dinner/one on one art lesson with me sometime within the next year. (USA ONLY) If we cannot meet at a show, We can make plans to meet at some location and you get dinner on me and one on one talk/lesson on drawing, making comics, etc.
So what are ya'll's thoughts on this? Something to think about...

BEST FATHERS DAY GIFT EVER!!!!!!
Oh yes. This is a big one for me. After getting my wife a real kick ass ring for Mother's Day, I was hoping I'd get something equally as nice. I was tossing around a few different things I wanted and the wife pretty much was gonna give me a credit card spending spree anyway. But today, I learned of this:

PAUL McCARTNEY IS TOURING! I saw it on Yahoo news and heard it on Stern. And after passing up 2-3 opportunities to see him before, I wasn't gonna miss this time. Only a few dates announced so far but one of them was Detroit! For the first time since 2005 I might add. I saw tickets were going on sale this coming Friday. However my pal Tim Hamm was talking of going as well and clued me in to presale going on right now! (Odd that we both were thinking of this at the same time. Tells you how in tune your friends in with you sometimes) So he told me of the presale, made with the link and I went. I spent my Father's Day money on a ticket and its official, I'M GOING!!!!!!!!!!
I got killer tickets too. I decided since this is a hug deal for me, seeing my favorite Beatle, that I would get the best tickets I possibly could. So I got on the field tickets in the KK section. Real damn close. Row 17.

No way was I gonna top row this thing man. This is my second dream concert, next to seeing a reunited Floyd (which will never happen now). From what I have heard, the show will span Paul's entire career and will be three hours long! I cannot wait! So excited. Its funny too, and Tim pointed this out to me, that I am seeing two of my absolute favorite bands in the world within a month of each other! I'm seeing U2 on the 26th of this month and then Paul on the 24th next month. GREAT TIME TO BE A MUSIC FAN!!!!!!
Whew... okay, I'll try to calm down now.
_______________
I'm 115 cards into my 200. Rockin' on them quite nicely. When I can share them publically, I will.
Worked on a few commissions this last weekend. I took the night off last night and watched 4 movies on Bluray with the wife. Die Hard, Predator, Casino Royale and Iron Man. She'd never seen Iron Man and she liked it alot. I gotta say, I love Casino Royale, but it makes me question my sexuality, cause Daniel Craig is so dreamy. Even I get lost in those blue eyes. And it instantly makes me feel broke and fat as fuck! They're tossing around millions in a wink and coming out of the water looking all buff and suave. (Sigh) Yeah, time to get serious about that treadmill eh? ;) (BTW, I'm not putting myself up for the idea that I want to be a Bond Girl. I can look at a dude and say he's good looking and not be gay, right? RIGHT?)
Okay. Back to work with me. Its gonna be an interesting summer for me! Oh yes!
NANANAAANAAAAAAAAA HEY JUUUUUDEEEE!!!!!

Thoughts in my head: The Root of it All
Because of a NEW VIDEO I posted today, I got these lyrics in my head...
Watch/listen to it HERE
"THE ROOT OF IT ALL" -- DREAM THEATER
Self-centered fear has got a hold of me
Clutching my throat
Self righteous anger running all through me
Ready to explode
Procrastination paralyzing me
Wanting me dead
These obsessions that keep haunting me
Won't leave my head
Help to do for me what I can't do myself
Take this fear and pain
I can't break out of this prison all alone
Help me break these chains
Humility now my only hope
Won't you take all of me
Heal this dying soul
I can feel my body breaking
I can feel my body breaking
I'm ready to let it all go
I can feel my body shaking
Right down to the foundation
The root of it all
Take all of me
The desires that keep burning deep inside
Cast them all away
And help to give me strength to face another day
I am ready
Help me be what I can be
Watch/listen to it HERE

Speaking of original art....
As much as I am selling art and books and things I own, I am getting new things. I've become sorta intrested in STAR WARS toys for the kid. But for me, the big kid, I am looking at original art. Art that means something to me. After I got the Star Trek page from Mark Walters in Dallas, I was reminded that I always wanted a page from DC's TREK Comic run. Thats the run of comics that was the first comics I ever read. So I did a search today for that and Tom Sutton/Richardo Villagren art and found this gem:

A page from STAR TREK #52, the first comic I ever read. And its one of my favorites from that book as well. The crew are forced to walk through an hallutination of hell as told by Dante's Inferno. (read it, it makes sense) And there's a part where they walk through the cold frozen dead and Kirk loses his shit for a bit. Its a pretty cool scene and I always remember the last bit where it says "Oh don't ask me dear reader... I dare not write it." Love that page. I always stopped and re-read that page when I read it as a kid. But today, I found it for CHEAP and I bought it immediately. Its now mine! Well, once it ships here it will be mine. I'm excited for it to hang next to my favorite page from ASHES OF EDEN. YAY!
I also bought this piece recently:

Its a pinup of ANNA POCALYPSE by Tim Fischer. I am interested in getting some of my favorite artists to do pinups of my characters. Not only to print them in my books but to have the art as well. So I got this one. And its quite nice don't you think? Thanks dude!
Also today, I went on amazon and bought a couple books that have been in my wishlist for a while. The Making of STAR WARS and the Adam Richman MAN V FOOD book. Love em both. Should arrive sometime late next week maybe. YAY!
Yeah. I'm a buying fool. So you should be too! Pick up some of the original art from the post below. and if none of that is to your liking, there's more to come. Stay tuned!!
Okay, back to work with me. I've cooked roast for the family and now I gotta clean house, put the kid to bed and get rocking on more sketch cards. Word!
Cheers, T
