Well I had an interesting day! I got paid some freelance pay on Saturday and I didn't figure my paypal would deliver it into my account until Tuesday or Wednesday. I woke up this morning and lucky enough it was in there! Plus the wife had the day off with me, a rarity! So we withdrew our cash, I paid some bills off. We had some left for grocieries and I decided to treat myself for recent hard work. I got the kid a new backpack and he wanted a skateboard. Also got him a Yo Gabba Gabba figure set for his Bday. I got a Heisenberg Walter White figure from Toys R Us. Then I treated everyone to the buffet. On a whim, we decided to hit the thrift store for some cheap school clothes, as my money was starting to go light. I went into the book section, expecting nothing, when I found a stack of comics. I started digging through. On top? Walking Dead #7, first printing. I about crapped. I picked it up... #8 was behind it. then #9... all the way up to #25!!!! All first printing, all in decent condition. I lost my mind! What a find!
My head was buzzing about going home and flipping them on ebay where they'd go for stupid money. (Walking Dead comics are a hot item right now!) But I decided I didn't want to go home and I called a comic store an hour away that specialized in buying vintage or hot comics. They said they were interested in them, so we drove down. They gave em a look and offered a little less than what I had in my head for them. Not that I expected them to give me ebay or dealer value, but at least 1/2-3/4ths of it. After dwelling in my head about it for a bit, I decided to take the offer. Besides, I didn't want the headache of listing it, taking tons of photos, answering questions, getting yelled at about the value or condition. I am not a dealer, nor am I a collector. I read and don't bag and board! Plus they'd take out shipping, paypal fees, ebay fees... BAH! Just sell em now, let this dealer (who runs one of the best comic shops in Michigan BTW) make the money. I only paid $9 for the comics! So I was making a ton of profit on top of that. Plus I can treat my family to some extra shopping. So I accepted the offer.
At first I felt the sting of a bit of defeat, but it later subsided and now I am glad I did it. I got to take my family out of town on a trip, which we haven't done in forever. We bought groceries, we spent time together. Can't put a price on that! So I was very happy with my decision. Plus with my extra cash, I thought I'd hit the used DVD store and look for possible gems. Maybe lightening would strike twice. It did. I found a Godzilla collection box set with over 7 movies, different dubs and cuts and a nice collectors set (nice shelf porn!) for only $14! I almost bought the flicks individually earlier at an FYE in a $7 bin. Woulda cost me $50. So I saved, yet again!
Thats why I love shopping in box stores sometimes. The thrill of the hunt. Sometimes you strike gold. And today, I did. But next time if I find early Walking Deads like that again, I'm gonna try my luck at ebay. Today, was just for fun. A bonus. I'll take it. :)
Okay, off to pay more bills. Thanks for listening!
