So a mini rant of sorts..
So I was browsing flicker yesterday and found this..
For those not in the know, this is the famous QUICK STOP from Clerks. Yes, the filming location. I visited it in 2006:
Notice anything different? Yeah, remodeled with a paint job. Why they didn;'t choose the familiar Grey, I dunno. It does look nicer. I guess I am just bummed when a piece of cinema history (no matter how minut) changes in any way. There's poles up front now too. Perhaps this is in a way to keep fans away too. I dunno. But I would think they would have chose a paint scheme to play up the Kevin Smith film legacy. Like keeping the grey, reopening the RST video, etc. Yeah, the RST video sign is gone too! GODDAMMIT!
May not seem like a big deal to you, but to some, its a frakin' sacrilige. Pisses me off. Well, I'm glad I got to see it when I did. I hope they didn't change the inside. I'll hit the shit.
Lastly, another thought. The game GUITAR HERO 3 is now the highest grossing game of all time:

I am curious to see if people aren't buying REAL musical intruments anymore at all as a result, or if it effects it at all. I'd love to see a comparison in sales in guitars and drum kits from then to now, post-Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Has it increased or decreased? Anyone know out there?

Well, there is this report from Nov 2008:

Ah, thanks for that. I was scared it might be the opposite. I know guitar players who only play these video games now and it makes me sad.
You wanna play "CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON" with 5 buttons or the whole damn fretboard with effects n'junk? To me, no comparison.

I've ended up with a copy of "Guitar Hero: World Tour", and then got a combo pack of "Guitar Hero 3" and "Guitar Hero Aerosmith". In my opinion, the game does help expose the younger kids to classic rock (that's a good thing). As a musician, I've had to realize that there is a very limited amount of actual guitar skill involved in the game. I have to "turn off" my musician brain, and simply react to what the game tells me to do. In that regard, I see the game as simply a glorified version of the old "Simon" game. It's just "follow the leader". The added value is that I get to play along with some Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, or even some Steely Dan. It can be fun, as a game.
Overall, I see it as a good thing that we are getting everyone more interested in live music (especially in a Kanye West world of Autotune and Pro Tools* tricks)
* - Disclaimer: I own a Pro Tools LE home studio setup for recording, but I don't use many of the elaborate tricks (yet).
