CDs! and why I don't mind double dipping for them!

went to Kzoo today to avoid a very sick kelly. (no H1, but upper resp. infection). I was gonna get that new Nirvana Live at Reading DVD/CD, but it was $9.00 more than they were offering it on the website. So, BLAH!

Instead I got the new Alice in Chains. The first 5 tracks are very good. I need to dissect the others. Its a close enough facsimile to the old stuff that I don't mind it. Its more sludgy though. Not quite as directionless as a Cantrell solo project. I want to listen closer to see if Sean Kinney does cool fills or anything that I missed.

I also scored (and I don't know how this was coming out and I missed that it was!) NIRVANA'S BLEACH SE CD. Comes with 52 page book full of rare photos, remastered audio and a bonus concert from 1989 on CD. Worth $13.00 I think. I haven't listened to it yet, but the packaging is a doozy.

I tell yeh, I really love that some of my favorite albums are all being remastered/re-released with all this bonus stuff. I'm a total sucker for that. So a list for ya:

TOP TEN ALBUMS I WANT TO SEE RE-RELEASED AND REMASTERED WITH EXTRAS:

10-Jar of Flies- with demos and things. Expanded artwork.
9-SCENES FROM A MEMORY-Expanded artwork and things. Already got the demos. Maybe an alternate live concert from the tour that they did to support it.
8-ACTUNG BABY-I hope they keep just remastering ALL of the U2 Cds. If so, this one is next on the list and it deserves it. Hell, I wnat them all. The U2 discs have been great. Nice slipcases, expanded notes, making of notes and things and a disc of UNRELEASED songs. U2 have wrote a damn huge amount of songs.
7-All EArly DYLAN records. Obvious. Demos, expanded artwork and liner notes/making of.
6-Early Tom Waits-All of em. Same thing.
5-DOOKIE-This needs a 20th anniversary package with cool artwork, pics, etc. The sound is fine as is. No remastering needed.
4-PRETTY HATE MACHINE-They did a Downward Spiral one. Why not for the first NIN album? It needs it. The sound could definately be improved and pumped up.
3-All Nimoy/Shatner 60-70's Lps on CD. Just want these with good audio and pics. HA! What fun.
2-All METALLICA-I am completely sour on Metallica now. But to reissue all the old albums as SE with cool pics, notes, etc, I'd totally buy em.
1-(as if you didn't guess) ALL PINK FLOYD! And I Want the BEATLES treatment for these. Complete remastering, expanded booklets with pics, making of liner notes, documentaries, which take was what, etc. All of it. I think we're overdue for it. The last time they were reissued was 1997 I think. I would pay $40 each album for this. Do it EMI!!!!!!

And lastly, a bonus: The job they did on this Nirvana BLEACH one is awesome. I hope it continues and we get a SE of "NEVERMIND" and "IN UTERO." Maybe INCESTICIDE as well. I'll take it!

For you record companies that are losing money, its cause modern music is all crap now. Go after the old skool fans and remaster/rerelease the old CDs with tons of bonus shit and we'll get em! If you do a good job on them, that is. Take what they did to the BEATLES remasters and follow suit.

Now as to why I hate it when DVDs do this, I dunno. Maybe there's just not enough time in between the barebones DVD and the super dragon tiger ninja edition DVD releases. If it were a 10-25 anniversary disc with extras, then I'll excuse it. But don't release Xmen on DVD and then one year later release Xmen 1.5 with all the extras you held back from the first release. Thats shitty. Let nostalgia kick in and then go for it on the XMEN 20th anniversary (super dragon tiger ninja edition). Then maybe I'll fall for it.

Thats why I waited on WATCHMEN till you released the super dragon tiger ninja edition. Cause I knew you would. Thats the same reason I'm waiting for that GRINDHOUSE and KILL BILL one as well. Ya'll have fooled me for the last time with that shit! Every DVD purchase I get is carefully weighed now.... unless its a $5.00 bin special!
