DVDs and things...

Over 100 people have downloaded my book: IN THE TRENCHES: HOW TO SURVIVE AS A SMALL PRESS COMIC BOOK PUBLISHER! A hearty thanks to everyone who is giving it a read. Please enjoy it!

In other news, my local Best Buy broke the street date on this, so I went ahead and got it:

Yeah, the film was good. Not as great as the comic book. A watchable version. Although this extended version pumps up the gore and also adds in the 30 minute cartoon version of TALES FROM THE BLACK FREIGHTER. I was hesitant to get it too because I don't really care to have the motion comic extra discs, plus there's not much in the way of new bonus making of content. And its advertising it as a 5 disc set, even though the 5th disc is just a digital download and it SHOULDN'T count! But I guess its a way to have the theatrical version too, along with this uber-extended cut.

I made the wife sit down and watch it. She's never read the comic and I don't think she really was pumped to see this either. She generally liked it, so thats good. I Agree it does feel super long now. But so does Lord of the Rings! And the longer, the better. My second time viewing, the same things that annoyed me the first time are still there. I won't reiterate it for you. I reviewed it back at the forum at the idiothead.com site somewhere. But I said, shit.. I'm a comics fan. If I own the damn Dolph Lungren Punisher than I should own this too. So whatever. I got it.

Speaking of DVD purchases, I cannot rememeber if I discussed this in my blog or not, but we finally decided to get a bluray player this xmas. Mostly for my TOS TREK box sets back (with the original and remastered versions on one disc!). I am NOT going to rebuy all my DVDs. I will buy new films that deserve to look good in HD. I'm thinking the new TREK movie will be my first Bluray purchase. Just because I want to enjoy the shit out how good it will look.

I was burned by the HD DVD/Bluray war in that I bought the HD DVD format and it lost the format war. So I guess now I have no choice but to score a Bluray. I mean, I got a 42" TV anyway right? I'm not 1000% concerned about making my films the absolute BEST I can see (yer talkin to a guy who still collects out of print VHS tapes!). But I do think that with new movies, they need to be seen the way they are intended. So, Bluray it is. What I am doing with my HD? No clue. Maybe put it up somewhere as a spare. Or for when the one in the bedroom poops out.

Anyway, thats that. The wife is home sick tonight from work. May have the big bad H1N1. Going to doctor tomorrow to see for sure. I'll let you know. But for now, I'm sanitizing everything and sleeping on the damn couch!
