NEW BOOK! My first!!!!!

Last night I premiered my first HOW TO written book: "IN THE TRENCHES: HOW TO SURVIVE AS A SMALL PRESS COMIC BOOK PUBLISHER." and its available online for FREE to anyone who wants to download it and read it. This project has been gestating for almost two years now. A couple years ago, I used to use my old blog at my now defunct MYSPACE page to post essays on how to aspects of being a small press publisher. Not that I am an uber expert or anything, but just a place to gather thoughts and tips that I've learned in my years of self publishing. The idea then struck me to collect them all, expand on the concepts and make it into a printed nonfiction book. I was going to add a bunch of interviews from throughout the industry and add illustrations as well. The concept was a large one, and with my current workload over the past few years, it kept being pushed back.

However, when recently reconsidering the endevour, I thought "who am I to be writing this type of book?" True, I am not a large success story ala Terry Moore or Dave Sim with that sort of street cred to publish some definitive HOW TO book. But I have been a self publisher for fifteen years. I also have discussed all these concepts with everyone else at my level that I could. I've now since gathered all that information into one place and so I feel its only right to share it. Its my way of giving back. Also, I am asked all the time: "how do you get into doing this for myself?" Now I have a place to direct everyone.

The book has been online for only a few hours. So far I've got over sixty downloads of it, and thats with minimal advertising. I've got some emails out to comic news websites that I frequent and hopefully they'll spread the word and get more people into it. So if you found my site as a result of that, I thank you for checking it out. Take the book for free as my gift to you. This my first effort in the realms of this type of writing. I hope to continue to publish books such as this. Fiction and nonfiction both. I have plans for that in the future. I may also collect IN THE TRENCHES and expand on it, adding chapters and interviews with illustrations and publish it in a book form. I haven't ruled that out. Who knows? I'm open to the possibility.
