BEST OF 2000-2010 (part two)

Okay, on to the best of the decade (and yes, I know of the arguement that the decade isn't officially over till 2011. But everyone else is doing their lists, so here's mine) (also, alot of my favorites came out in 1999 and cannot count. Such as Scenes from a Memory, American Beauty, Fight Club, etc) IN NO ORDER BTW.....

TOP 10 ALBUMS:

1 Snow-Spocks Beard - I cannot tell you how many times I listened to this progressive rock epic. Its awesome.

2 Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance-Dream Theater - Ditto. both sides rock.

3 Octavarium-Dream Theater - Has my favorite D.T. song on this disc. Wonderful showcase of the band's talents

4 Kid A-Radiohead - Heard this and haven't been the same since. I love, love, love, love this record.

5 Yankee Hotel Foxtrot-Wilco - An old co-worker friend turned me on to this and its just absolutely wonderful. So haunting and jamming all the same.

6 Dead Again-Type O Negative - "World Coming Down" came out in 1999, so this one will have to make up for it on this list. It has SEPTEMBER SON, the best Type O track single since anything off of Bloody Kisses. Wonderful album

7 All that you can't Leave Behind-U2 - Although I love How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb as well, you gotta give props to this one first. WALK ON, KITE and IN A LITTLE WHILE are great fuckin' tunes. Plus, I saw U2 on this tour. Spectacular!

8 Is There Anybody Out There?-Pink Floyd - Awesome! I get a Floyd disc on this list! The Wall is my favorite album of all time. And this box set of a few of the live shows was well worth the wait. Excellent release! I hope for more like this. Open up them archives boys!

9 American Idiot-Green Day - A great, great great great album and quite a gamble and a musical stretch from a band I had underestimated. this is the new era of Rock Opera.

10 Get Behind Me Satan-The White Stripes - I know, everyone loves ELEPHANT, but I like this one better. Every instrument under the sun, some heartfelt bluesy songs and beatbox rhythms. Their best album I think.

(Hon. Mention: THE LORD OF THE RINGS SCORES -- These never have left my player since the movies came out. I listen to them all the time while I am working on pages.)

BEST 10 MOVIES:

1 LORD OF THE RINGS-Yes, I am counting this as one, since it was shot at once. What a satisfying piece of cinema. Just.. I have no words for how awesome this is.

2 STAR TREK-Yeah, the 2009 movie. It blew me away. I walked in wanting to hate it, but it caressed my old jaded fanboy heart and made me feel that excitement for Trek that I haven't felt since 1984.

3 ROCKY BALBOA-I am a huge fan of the Rocky movies and this is hands down, the best of them all. It satisfies longtime fans and more than makes up for the mistakes of V. It was just fucking awesome.

4 THE DARK KNIGHT-Best comic film of the decade? Maybe.

5 GHOST WORLD-Then again, there's this comic book movie. I loved it.

6 CLERKS 2-Say what you want to, but I loved this movie. It spoke to me in a time where I needed to hear it. Forget the dick and fart jokes, this one has heart, just like the first.

7 GRAN TURINO-The best film of 2008. I just loved this movie. It made me cry hard in the end.

8 THE WRESTLER-Absolutely heart breakingly awesome. It reminds me of my brother in the way ABOUT SCHMIDT reminds me of my father. I just loved this film.

9 STAR TREK NEMESIS- Yeah, I'm predictable. But I loved this movie. It capped on the
Next Generation cast in the best possible way. I loved that Data finally found the completeness of his humanity. (spoilers) what is more human than experiencing death. Best scene is when they are toasting him and all teared up. Riker mentions the first time he saw Data. and we remember. Picard simply smiles, knowing that Data's journey of humanity is complete. If for just this scene alone, it makes the movie great.

10 TEAM AMERICA- I know, a surprise for a film buff's BEST OF list. But the South Park boys give you what you want. Its offensive and funny as hell. Loved it.

TOP 5 TV SHOWS:

1 DOCTOR WHO- The relaunch worked and I got hooked on it. Its a spectacularly awesome show. And I've went back to discover the older ones, and I haven't seen an episode yet that I don't like.

2 FIREFLY- Outer space western. I'm sooooo glad I finally checked this show out back in 2004. It was great and FOX are idiots for cancelling it. Speaking of FOX being idiots...

3 FAMILY GUY- The cancelled show comes back and its full speed ahead ever since. The wife and I are addicted to the show. She collects everything Family Guy related. Every night she falls asleep to it. Addicted.

4 BATTLESTAR GALACTICA- The best show on TV for the times it was on. Hands down. Despite its lackluster-ness at times, it still was awesome TV. I loved this show.

5 SOUTH PARK- Although I've soured on the show for the last couple years, I gotta give credit for the early 2000's worth of shows. Except for the Chris Reeve show, which was all kinds of wrong and made me not like them as much for it.

TOP 10 EVENTS:

1 Feb 2, 2000 - My son Cody's birth.

2 Sept 1, 2008 - My son Scott's birth.

3 December 22, 2000 - My mother's death. An event that would shape me in more ways than I can ever imagine. I haven't been the same since.

4 August 15, 2003 - I married the best girl on the planet.

5 (summer 2001) - Cinema Four closes.. effectively ending my favorite job I ever had.

6 (April 2002-January 2007) - Working at the Morning Sun Newspaper. A great job with lots of great friends. Lots of ups and downs there. But got a lot of experience as a result.

7 (January 2002-Current) - Pleasant Hymns #1 premieries. Since then, I've released the following books: Pleasant Hymns 2-7, PLEASANT LIFE: THE DIRECTORS CUT, Pleasant Life: GEEKS GONE WILD TB, PLEASANT LIFE: THE MIRROR UNIVERSE SAGA TB, PLEASANT LIFE: WHAT WE LEAVE BEHIND TB, Adventures of Earthgirl and Atomic Adonis 1-2, Expendables 1-2, Tales of Sequential Mayhem 1, Wise Intelligence 1-3, Spasm 1, bits of 4 page stories and tons of pinups and many more to come.....

8 December 2004 - Graduated College. I am the only one in my family to do that. Quite proud, despite my degree is for shit.

9 Moved to St. Joseph - We left the college town far behind to come here for a fresh start and to look for a quiet place to start a family. While my initial plans didn't come to fruition, they evolved into something else: The wife got a great job, we started a family and I am in such a place that I can work on my art. Couldn't have worked out better.

10 San Diego - Again, one of the best events of my life.

Okay, on to the next ten years!
