So all the nerds of the world are creaming their pants at today's announcement of STAR WARS coming on Bluray this september. Of course, I am not. Why? Cause I guaran-fuckin-tee it will be the "special edition" cuts with the added shit and tinkered with crap. And who knows? Lucas will likely tinker with them once more before September rolls around.
It boasts never before seen deleted scenes and archive stuff. I will be avoiding this set because it won't have the original cuts in them. UNLESS the bonus features are so awe inspiringly awesome, that I have no choice. But I'm talking put the hour and change cut from Episode IV, the 40 minutes cut from Empire and 25 minutes cut from Jedi. Also tons of documentaries on props, sets, maybe a location visit (like the Holy Grail Monty Python extra on the DVD), actors, makers, models, etc. Maybe a look at fandom. Give us a tour of Steve Sansweets' collection house. The Skywalker ranch and what they got there. I mean, make it a total celebration of STAR WARS and the films. Hell (and this is a long shot for sure), toss in the HOLIDAY SPECIAL. Just come out and say "yeah, this sucks, but why not include it" and put it out there. Now THAT would impress me. And maybe I'd throw down my hard earned for these films I've bought again, and again, and again and again....
But they won't. It will be the special editions with a fucking trailer for whatever video game is coming out soon and maybe (if we're lucky) the same docs from the DVD releases that were sort of lackluster and full of gaps. I was reading the talkback on AICN about this and this dude posted this and it 100% conveyed my feelings about this matter:
___
This Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set will not be complete without the original theatrical versions of the Original Trilogy. That's what the real Star Wars fans want. Not your tinkered versions. Just include both versions on the Blu-rays. They did it with Apocalypse Now. They did it with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. They did it with the Alien movies. They did it with Blade Runner. They did it with Avatar. Need I go on?
In short, George, you, as the creator of Star Wars, have absolutely the right to tinker with these movies until they match your vision (or whatever). But you also have an obligation to the many Star Wars fans out there and also to history. These movies are cinematic landmarks. Well, the Original Trilogy is, anyway. To not put the Original Trilogy in their original theatrical versions on Blu-ray is like rewriting history. I mean, who cares if the visual effects are a bit dated by today's standards? So what? Toy Story looks a bit dated compared to Toy Story 3, but it's still a wonderful movie. Why? A great story and great characters. Just like the original Star Wars trilogy.
But I'm guessing you're probably saving them for a later date. Twice the opportunity to make a lot of money, right?
__________
So yeah. Unless the extras are the BEST BEST BEST they can be, or you also include the original theatrical cuts AND THEY ARE REMASTERED WITH THE SAME LOVING CARE AS THE "SPECIAL EDITION" VERSIONS.... I will be boycotting this release. You've taken my pants down far too many times George. I love ya. I love my memories of what Star Wars was. But the passion is gone. Now is your chance to restore it. Please do so. Last chance to save face and make nice with us crusty old curmudgeon fan boys. Do it for us that have put all our time and money and memories into your little world. We've bought your action figures and cereal and all that shit. Its time to give back again. Just this one thing. Just to shut us up, eh?
Cheers, T

Do you see yourself watching Starwars, from the prequels to the original movies in Blu-ray? Or would you rather wait for them in 3D format??
To be honest, I'm not interested in 3D technology. I've only seen one film in the theater in 3D and I could live without it. I see it as a gimmick and really am not interested. And when they re-re-release them in theaters, it will be an upconverted format, so not really lending itself to it that much. I "MAY" go see Episode 4 and 5 in the theater just to have the big screen experience again. But not very likely. I got a big screen at home. :)
Yeah. I'm not happy that Hollywood is dumping a lot of classic films in all these weird new gimmicks and versions. It's getting real discouraging and I'm running low on shelf space.
With regards to Starwars, I'll probably do the same. Watch the classic movies in HD and all that.
Not sure if I can stand any of the prequels anymore. I felt violated since watching RedLetterMedia and the Making of stuff.
