And this:

(oh no! How dare they! Like its not happened in mainstream comics before!)
And thats what the arguement is about. First of all, They are saying they aren't hiring enough female artists and creators at the big companies. Relax, I already discussed that. But now they are arguing against the sex scenes of Catwoman fucking Batman and Starfire here being very gratuitious in her attire and even coming on to a dude who is watching her. I can see the argument that if they wanted to "attract new readers" (specifically meaning maybe young kids with modern sensibilities) they would avoid those types of things. But I submit to you all that this wasn't the plan at all. Perhaps they knew that their target market was still the 18-50 year old males who buy these books. They are buying and either arguing about it or jerking off. Its a BUSINESS. And the books are sold out. Mission accomplished. So whats the big deal?
I get tired of people arguing of the mistakes of the BIG TWO. Folks, Mainstream Superhero books are a FANTASY BASED GENRE. FAAAANNNNNTAAAAASSSSSSSYYYYYYY. Think about that word. It says it all right there. I mean, what do you expect?
What angers me is the design of characters, not their actions. A few weeks ago I brought up this new Zatanna outfit and its lack of functionality:

It is silly. I am agreeing with you. But don't argue about it. Thats the game. They won. They got the headlines and the money from the books sold. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Don't you get it? Controversy sells!!!
Personally, I like the movement of making women sexually empowered. Its a long way from the old caveman days of the strong men holding them down and just taking what they want and there's no focus at all on their pleasure. A woman looked at only as a birthing mare. It took centuries for women to feel like its okay to be sexually empowered. You gotta admit its gotten better. I like the idea that now women can be sexually empowered and can have some control, cause they do. Oh how they do! So why get "offended" if they display it? I say if its done tastefully and in a way that makes realistic sense, then go for it. Cause kids aren't reading. THEY ARE NOT READING. And there's no shortage of what are deemed "kids books." Hell, even I am making one. Right along side the hardcore porn I am making as well. So there's two sides to everything folks. Thats all I am saying.
Want a good read with a more realistic and positive female role model? I GOT ONE FOR YA RIGHT HERE. Give a listen. Check out my book ANNA POCALYPSE. I guarantee I've taken a good stab at writing women. Not what I THINK or WISH women would be like. I've created a heroine that is gritty and realistic and you'll see over book #2 how she's evolved and changed as a result of her actions.
But then again, my argument is moot because I have a penis and I don't count. But I say ORDER ANNA POCALYPSE and see if I got it right. Show the creators (not just me) that work hard to write realistic (and sexually empowered) women some love. The ones who get it right are ones I follow closely. Terry Moore, Adrian Tomine, Adam Warren (yes. Give Empowered a read. Its cheesecake but realistic and graspable. Very self-aware), and many many others. Put us to the test and let the rest go.
Much love, T
(BTW- I didn't mean this writing to seem as a large advert to pimp my books. Its just that I get sick of the same arguments when it comes to mainstream comics. "Oh, this character is dead!" "Oh, they kicked this person off the team" "Oh, they allowed a female to show some some of her feminine side and I am offended cause its not HEROIC to do so nor PROPER for a woman to do so!" Its just a stupid circular argument and hysterically pointless. All I am saying is if you want realistic and good, its out there. Seek it out and ye shall find.)
