STAR TREK BEYOND Trailer Thoughts

Ya'll know I'm a hardcore Trek fan and people are already starting to email me and ask what I think of the new trailer. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out and come back.

(SPOILERS)

First off, I hate naysaying things before I see it, but just based on what I have seen, I am not excited at all. New costume designs, Enterprise destroyed AGAIN (Trek 3/Trek3 Anyone?), I love Beastie Boys but in a Trek trailer? Makes it seem a bit too rock and roll for my taste. I like classic Trek, not this new shit. I was excited after the 2009 movie. But INTO DARKNESS ate ass and this one doesn't look promising. Looks like we got another alien of the week/movie type of flick. Mix Fast and the Furious, with Hellboy 2 and INTO DARKNESS and this is what comes out. It looks like all flash and not much there. I know, they are making it flashy to grab people. I get it.

I know I will be wrong. I know it will come out and modern audiences will flock to see it and it will make billions McMillions. I just come to it with my old style sensibilities. I have 50 years worth of Trek still and nothing changes or erases that. So let the kids play in the sandbox. When the smoke clears, all anyone will truly remember is the greatness that was 1966-2001. That's it. If I want more Trek, I will look to the fan films, which are done with love and care. There's plenty of them to choose from. That is where the heart of Trek lives.

But for now, mainstream STAR TREK is not looking good, and my mind is in a galaxy far, far away. Now THAT looks fucking great! And in all fairness, STAR WARS was in my life first... Sorry guys. I'm jumping ship, before they blow it up for the 80th time.

I hold out hope that in the end of the flick, they get a new Enterprise and it looks sort of retro-ish, like the 1960's ship. To me the ENTERPRISE is a character. You cannot write her off in every movie like this. I'm just glad Leonard Nimoy isn't here to see this shit. He left just in time, I think.

Yeah, not too excited. But again, thats based on what I have seen. I know that by next year, I could eat my words and be the hypocrite. But people are asking for my initial reaction. Now you got it. You know I'll still see it. UNLESS, reviews are so bad... like Star Trek Insurrection bad, that I will not see it.

Its just odd to feel this. That a new Star Trek movie is coming out soon, and I am not looking forward to it at all.

Is she dead, Jim? We'll see.
