Daily Diary Doings

 5-10-12
The wife cannot sleep throughout the night and keeps getting up or shifting, which wakes me up a lot. But I am in a good mood so it really doesn’t effect me much. I agree to take over getting up with bots duties due to her lack of sleeping. Around 6:50 he kicks the door and I get up and get him dressed. He’s in a good mood mostly, until I try to brush his hair, natch. I get him on the bus and check online shit. I opt to stay up a bit and get some blogging/writing done before passing back out around 9:30 after a nice shit.  The wife is still having trouble sleeping, her right hand keeps going numb: Effect of her pregnancy. So she has to lay upright while I sleep next to her. I get back up at 11:55 and we get ready to head out of town. We get bots off the bus and head to Kalamazoo after doing some stuff in town. We hit the record store where I get a few 80’s Rush Lps, Eagles The Long Run, Meatloaf Bat out of Hell and a brand new pressing of Metallica’s Kill em All. Then we go to Target, the Hobby shop, Fanfare comics, the mall and Cirillas. While at Target I get a few packs of the Avengers Assembled cards, the Upper Deck set I did sketch cards for! It was kinda cool to see them finally out. Then finally head back to Lansing, stopping off at Lions Den for wife toys, then to Okemos Best Buy. Their LP section completely dwindled down to nothingness and I am left disappointed. We head to Clems Comics downtown where I cash in my store credit. I get a Superman Lives trade, the last Transmetropolitan trade I keep putting off since the series ended in 2003, new Walking Dead, Superman #2, Red Hood and the Outlaws and Bernie Wrightson’s new Frankenstien book. Then we stop off at the liquor store and ice cream shop and finally hit home around 8:30. Dean texts me to see if I want to drink tonight as it is his wife Mjit’s bday at the stroke of midnight. I agree and we make plans. Bots enjoys his new discs and the wife and I check online shit and clean the house a bit. Then bots passes out and I pour some Amaretto and Sprite and play cards with the wife til Dean and Mjit show up. The wife has to get up early so she heads to bed while we stay up and drink. We end up having a laid back night and just shoot the shit. I eat to sober up too cause I start to feel a little sick. Around 2am, they take off and I fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow.

The wife wakes me up at 7am leaving for a special Olympics event she is volunteering at. The bots kicks his door moments later. I get up and watch Bubble Guppies and Star Wars with the kid and doze in and out on the couch as we do. I finally get up around 8:45. I check email and online shit and start working on DC cards. I am way behind on them and need to get rocking on them so I can work on other stuff as well. I shoot some emails to Liza with an invoice for my Sherlock Holmes cards in addition to all of this. I get to work penciling some more sketch cards for the big set and before I know it, I tackle 30  loose pencils in 4 hours. I start to ink when the wife texts to say she’s headed back. We get ready and head out. We hit Culvers for lunch and then the Disc Traders where I get a 4 pack Rambo on BR of all 4 flicks for a nice price! Bots gets Clone Wars season 3. Then we go to Valu Land to check out the new grocery store. Underwhelming, but we get a few things nonetheless. The wife goes next door to the thrift store to get cheap clothing and I sit in the car, as I have tried to dig there for clothes before but there is nothing in my size. Thirty minutes later (no shit!) she finally emerges and I give her some playful shit about making me wait so long. We go to Blockbuster and Family Video to rent Captain America and Thor so she can see it and both places are sold out. Defeated, we head home where bots tears into Clone Wars and the yogurts I bought him and I update the blog. I attempt a nap but it doesn’t take. Brian Maze calls just as I am about to pass out and we talk about him seeing Avengers finally. Now awake, I search online for possible deals on buying Thor and Cap on disc, which I find at Target. So we get re-dressed and head to Target getting cat litter but finding all DVD copies of Thor and Cap sold out. The Blu-rays are $35.99 each and I toy with possibly getting them, only to talk myself out of it. We leave and head to Meijer where I find the LAST TWO COPIES of Cap and Thor on Br/DVD/Digital Copy for the sale price of $20.99 each. I snatch em up quick, along with another stuffed Angry Bird for the bots. We check out and head to Walgreens to get soda, popcorn and candy for our movie night. We get home and I upload my digital copies of both flicks to my Mac and the wife gets the kid to go to bed. I call the den of sin to see my schedule for next week. Then we curl up and watch Thor, followed by Captain America. I find on a second viewing that I enjoy Thor far more than Cap. They end and we both pass out around 1:30am.

The bots kicks the door at 8am and so I get up and we watch cartoons till 9:30am and I get up and check email and online junk. I then get to work on penciling more DC cards and stop to play bubbles and action figures with the bots. We check the mail and I get a check from Topps for the Mars Attacks cards, as well as blanks for the next card set I am on after the current one. But BOTH have the same deadline! So I guess I gotta do both! I end up staring at the Topps check for a nice few minutes and reminisce to me circa 1992 where I took all my weekly spending money and rode my bike up to the card/comic shop to get basketball/baseball cards. I never dreamed that one day I’d be working for some of these companies! Its quite an honor to join that rich history and do my take on characters done by others in an “official capacity.” I’m very grateful. If only I could go back and tell that Adam from 1992 about this, I would have been a lot less of a depressive kid. Oh well. It all worked out for him, quite nicely I must say!
I send out emails of thanks to Topps and clarification stuff on the new set and text with the wife the good news. I get about 25 new cards pencilled and inked before I decide to take inventory of what I got going and what copic refills I need to get when the wife gets home. I call Cody’s mom to cement plans for next weekend and then work on cleaning the house. The wife comes home and I hurry them to get ready and we head to Grand Art Supply about 5 minutes before they close to stock up on Microns and Copic refills. We then head to East Lansing and score some Five Guys burgers. A bad meal, I know. But I’ve been doing really well on the diet. One day of weaning won’t be too bad for me. I’ll just water and apple it for the rest of the day! We get home and I do a water change and conditioner on the fish tank. I’ve had no more fish die in a long time and I treat them with a nice bit of frozen brine shrimp. The wife and I watch an episode of Ghost Hunters on On Demand, to which she falls asleep. I watch some Little Bear on Nick Jr with the bots and then get up to check email and update blog. An orange fluffy cat walks by our window and bots interacts with it a bit. It got me sad because it reminds me of my dead cat Milo (RIP). I refill the copics and prepare for a long night of card coloring and drawing. The wife puts the bots to bed and passes out on the couch watching JTV. I get to work on cards and over the next six hours, I color almost 50 cards. I finish up by 2:30am feeling quite accomplished. The sketch cards come out looking really great and instantly I am happy that I am finally catching up on the work! I get the wife up and we head to bed and pass out around 3am.
