Trying to get the creative juices flowing in my brain this Sunday afternoon and thought I'd pop on and share some thoughts I have currently with you. I was thinking today about the rumors that Marvel is planning a large reboot much like DC did and I am kind of jazzed about the idea. I'd love to read Xmen and Spiderman again and enjoy them like I did when I was a kid. I think the problem with those guys are that there are just too many titles per character. I want to read about them, but its too intimidating for me to know where to start reading, and which books "count." It seems so many times that stories done can be easily lead to "not count" in the long run of it all. Its too confusing. and if I am confused, new readers must be too. But guys, I want to read those characters! I want to read the comics like I had when I was a kid. If you do reboot, please make with less titles per character so I can jump on and read. DC reboot was good, but I still am lost because there's a time gap that doesn't make sense. Also you get used to one creative team and they leave the book just as you get into it.
Thats why I stick with Invincible and Walking Dead. Same team, same book. Its awesome. But soon my other book I read, "The Boys," will be ending and I will need something to take its place.
On the other hand, I've been enjoying what IDW has been doing with their ongoing TREK and Ghostbusters series. Also the Rocketeer Adventures. IDW has quickly become one of my favorite comic companies out there. And I am not just saying that because I would love to work on a TREK book for them one day! I just think they got good stuff going on. Ya'll should take notice.
I'm ramped up for the SDCC excitement, even though I will not be there. I wish I could be, but its not financially feasible right now. Nor is it safe to take off like that with the wife pregnant and all that. Next year, I will consider it for sure. I went in 2009 and it was a lot of fun. Much more different than what I was used to, but a cool change. But I will be watching the fun going on via the news sites and hearing the stories from my pals when they get back. Its a fun time!
I'm really itching to have some of my freelance checks arrive so I can grab a few things on my "want" list. Its getting too long and I haven't spoiled myself in a while. Its time I do so. I've been working very hard on everything and I deserve a treat I say. We all do! Go out and treat yourself today, folks. Life is short. Might as well enjoy the fuck out of it.
I've been so RUSH crazy, its insane. I've almost got all the albums. I cannot explain why I am so nuts for them really. It just feels good to have "new music" that is good to me. Love it.
Lately, I've had the urge to do some model kits again. I got an Enterprise B sitting in the box I haven't touched. and I'd love to finish that NX-01 Enterprise. And now the Ecto 1 is out as well. Lastly, I'd love to do a Batmobile model kit. I forsee painting in my future! Gotta finish these cards though.
Lastly, the sketch cards. Lots of companies have allowed me onto their sets and it is beyond awesome. I've worked on dream come true properties for the last year and its just amazing. A wonderful experience. Many thanks to Jay Durden for keeping my head in the loop as to what is coming and what is here. And millions of thanks to these companies for letting me in. Just this year I've worked on Titanic, Sherlock Holmes, Mars Attacks, Marvel, DC, Image, Night of the Living Dead and one other major property which hasn't been revealed yet. And when I can, I will reveal all! Trust me, its a big boy. And man, its just been great. However, I will say that I have been missing working on my comics too. I did a couple Anna pages while in North Carolina. It felt good to get back to page work for a night. I am not sure whats going to happen after I finish the current set I am on. If there are more offered, most likely I will take it. I need cash constantly rolling in to feed my family. And hopefully everything else lines up properly to where Anna and the adult site come out on time like I want them to. Lots of pots on the stove and I cannot wait to serve the meal, ya dig what I am saying? But for now, I am humbled that my work is being appreciated by new folks and I get the opportunity to do my take on characters and things I grew up enjoying. Best job in the world.
Well, thats the thoughts I got on this Sunday afternoon. Enjoy your week my little droogies. Much love to you all!
