FREE COMIC DAY recap

Wow! What a weekend! I went to my FREE COMIC BOOK DAY signing at Clem's Comics and Collectibles on Washington Square on two hours of sleep. I did an 8-11am shift and then back from 2-5pm. It was a long day. Lots of art and prints sold. Lots of free sketches for the kids...

I Was gonna take more pics and some video but I was so busy I never got to. Everyone was super awesome and I am very glad to have been able to come out again. Clems has the best staff and great atmosphere that make FCBD a real event! Thanks to them having me out again, and thanks to everyone who got something from me there! I hope it was as fun for you as it is for me. And if you are coming to this site for the first time, welcome!

***To the couple from CMU who bought the BSG Col. Tigh print: I told you a story about M. Hogan and I screwed up the punchline! I realized it after you guys left. If you want to know the real story with the actual punchline that makes it extra funny, EMAIL ME HERE and I'll tell you. I feel silly that I got the story wrong! I wanna fix that!

I sold lots of prints, cards and a few TALES comics. Didn't do any commissions beyond a customizable sketch card of Matt Smith as the Doctor. For the kids, I drew a ton of Doctor Who stuff, some comic guys but mostly I was drawing these Sonic the Hedgehog charcters. I didn't know that Sonic was back in fashion! Must be a new cartoon or something. I also talked with two younger kids and gave them tons of advice on how to get into comics and the proper schools to go for animation and the like. I hope I give good advice!

The best part of the day was meeting my fellow artists and writers there. One was writer/artist Daniel j Hogan, who had a novel and some nice mini comics to show off. The other was Sherief Abouelseoud, whose work can be found right HERE. Sherief and I had a great long conversation during the break about parenting and it was awesome. I hope I run into those guys a lot more. Seems silly to live in Lansing with so many great artists and writers and we all never hang out. We should be forming some awesome club of awesomesauce. If I had the money, I'd launch a studio space where we could all go and work in the same environment. (A dream for one day, eh?) But it was great to meet them and their partners who were there as well. The best highlight of any show I ever do is the friends I make along the way. This time was no exception. Awesome!

Okay, that signing is out of the way. Up next is the MOTOR CITY COMIC CON, which I will be at on SATURDAY ONLY! I'll be set up with my buddy Brett Pinson and we'll be promoting our new GN: THE EXPENDABLES. Which we hope will be back from the printer by showtime. Then after that in August I have WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO, all weekend. So far, no one I really know is going to that show, so it will be great to meet some new faces. I really don't know how that show is going to go for me. It will be intereting to find out.

This week, I got a ton of sketch card work to finish, plus the new set that should arrive Monday (I hope! Time is ticking away on the deadline for it!!!). Also new Starslam pages and more. The usual. And don't forget, NEW STARSLAM STRIPS EVERY MONDAY! We're close to wrapping up the first chapter and then we'll launch Chapter Two. Its gonna be great! (Adults only side, BTW)

In personal news, my in-laws came up yesterday while I was at the signing and they surprised us by buying a grill, charcoal, utensils, a cover and more! So I am gonna start grilling out some nice food starting today! I got some nice Ribeyes from the cash I made yesterday and so we're gonna have a feast. I hope you folks have an exciting week! I know I will. I'm pumped and ready to get some work done! Lets hope the kids cooperate with me!

luvs, T
