Okay, something a little less serious. A bit of a list of cool nerdy things I saw that I'd love to have for myself. Maybe I'll get em, maybe I won't. Maybe the wife will read this post and look at it as an early Xmas list! :) Here are some cool things for sale out there that I am kinda interested in...
I collect all things Riddler, so one of these new 12" Riddler figures based on the great Frank Gorshin from the 60's is necessary for me.
Hasbro is doing a kick-ass job on these new black series of figures. I have my eye on the Boba Fett (natch). If they make one of my other favorite Star Wars character (Bo Shek) then I'll get that too! I might have to get a Slave Leia, Han Solo and Luke (ROTJ) as well.
I'm not too big of a cookie eater but this Dragon Egg cookie jar is kinda neat. Maybe get two of them and fill them with Flour and Sugar for the kitchen. Heh.
This was just announced this week. A mega box set of both the new Trek movies in a super box set with all the extras. Now, I already have the first flick and am not a major fan of the second one. However, I am a completist and would like this box set. Reason: When they released Star Trek into Darkness on disc, they did this new bullshit thing studios are doing where they release certain extra features as store exclusives. Like the Target version has different extra features as the Best buy version, or the Walmart version, etc. This box set collects ALL of them and even adds more like a gag Reel and more. While it would be a double dip of sorts to re-own the first one, it would be good to own all the extras for the second flick. Its one of my least favorite Trek movies, but again, I'm a completist and I love to watch the film making process on dvd extras. It is an entertaining movie, sure. And I never got it on disc because of how much I didn't like it. that always bothered me. I think the fact that I didn't care for the flick, coupled with the various versions out there pissed me off, so I didn't get it. I didn't fall for the quadruple dip. Glad I waited.
For other things I didn't list, check my AMAZON WISH LIST right HERE
There we go! Something fun!
Much Love, T

Snowy Days
Welcome back friends.
Well, Christmas is fast approaching and the snow is falling hard. Supposed to get up to 6 inches of it today. Here's a look outside my office window:
You can't tell so much here but its snowing hard. Its going even worse as I type this. I like snow during Christmas time. The roads suck, but it helps when you don't have to go out as much. The wife's work is less than 2 miles away, so thats great. We both did some early Xmas shopping yesterday for each other's wants. She got rings, natch, and I got vinyl (equally, natch). I picked up some colored vinyl exclusive Nirvana, Ghost BC discs and a dollar bin soundtrack to Xanadu. I got about 50 pices of vinyl now and am now ready to pull the trigger on getting a turntable. I'm looking at a couple that THE RECORD LOUNGE in East Lansing has. I'll likely get it after the 20th for Xmas. We got the kids some presents as well. Just have to wait for them to sleep so we can wrap them.
I've been watching a lot of punk documentaries and flicks online and have made a list of some very basic bands (punk and not) that I have never really given the full examination to. Bands like Jesus & Mary Chain, Echo and the Bunnymen, Capt. Beefhart, Black Flag, Fugazi, The Cramps, The Smiths, The Specials, Misfits, Rollins Band, Public Image Ltd and more. Some I've only heard a few songs from so I am trying to give all their albums a nice listen. Its nice to get my head back into music so deep. Its like coming home. Ah, Vinyl!
I've mostly been away from FB except once a day, except this last week, some dude was trying to fight with me about how I chose to sell my AP cards. Many of my fellow artist buddies came to my "defense" but it basically fell on deaf ears. After a while, I let it go and its back to normal. I think the internet has taught all of us to sort of disconnect and not treat the other people on it like humans. We keep ourselves amused to death and sedated with indifference. For example, this new school shooting in Denver. I was outraged as many were. Being a parent, I'm scared to send my kids to school. You NEVER know whats going on there. I recently found out someone I personally know brought a gun to school and shot a kid. It was a long time ago and they've changed obviously, but still its very sobering to realize how real it is and how close it can be, as well as random. But the jokes on FB and Twitter yesterday about it just sickened me to the point I had to just stay offline all day. I buried my nose in a book. Neil Peart's "Ghost Rider," which I finished last night BTW. It just felt good to get away from everything and everyone. I think all of us should try that once in a while. Take a vacation from your routine and do something just for yourself.
The holidays are a happy and tough time for everyone, myself included. I have lots of bad memories and celebrations related to this time. I cover them over with new memories but sometimes no matter how much you run from your past, it catches up to you. Its not done messing with your head. I distract myself with work, podcasts, music and other things. Nothing warms the heart more than a good Christmas classic movie. Its all about creating a happy environment around you with people you love.
I guess I'm saying that all of us could use a bit of a vacation from the beautiful distractions and the fighting with strangers. Spend time reconnecting in person with family and friends. Find and make love. Make memories. Eat hearty and find joy. Do it now before you fully train youself and the next generation to disconnect fully and a thing such as basic human interaction is a lost art. Forget the stupid fights of if an imaginary Santa should be black or white, or if you get mad if someone says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Christmas." Its all bullshit to distract you from your path. Keep your focus. Cultivate happiness. Wake up from your sedation and enjoy the days you have and the friends/family that you have. Cause one day it will end and all you will have is the memories. Live it now. Turn off the phone and the computer and live.
But please, come back and check my blog and my podcasts! ;)
Anyway, deep thoughts over. Just want to say thanks for continuing to read my stuff here and all of you stay safe out there!
Cheers, T

Updates and Nonsense
Hey folks! We're rockin and rolling over here. I'm doing a bunch of commissioned AP cards from my Leaf Sports blanks, plus a few other commissions. Busy as always. Money has been tight as we're keeping up with little bills and plus doctor's visits/medication fees for Scott-bot. I think we got a good hold on a pill that helps calm him down. Its a rollercoaster most days with him, but we're getting it. He's getting better. Whew! Now if we can just keep his little brother out of everything!
Been continuing my vinyl obsession. I sold a few dvds/cds the other day and picked up some nice used discs. I did most of my shopping at REPLAY in East Lansing. If you are in the area, stop on in. Here's a bit of the interior:
There's three vinyl shops in East Lansing: Replay, FBC (Flat, Black and Circular) and The Record Lounge. They are all pretty close together. If in the area, stop in and give em business. Indie record shops deserve your money over big box stores!!!
In other news, I recorded episodes 199-200 of my IDIOTHEAD MORNING SHOW! Subscribe via Itunes right HERE. Its free! And thanks to those who listen. Its a perfect companion to this blog.
Over in the adult section of the site, we're getting ready to jump into chapter four of STARSLAM, my superhero erotica story. All shall soon be revealed! So if you are over 18, jump over and get caught up. That also, is FREE!
For you adult Deviantart fans, I will be uploading newer girlie art sometime this next week so watch out for it. Its celebrating some love for BBW. (BIG BEAUTIFUL WOMEN) Necessary.
The snow has fallen here in Michigan and south of us there was a massive snowstorm. Winter is here and that means fasten your coats and turn on that 4 wheel drive. Be safe! Don't drive crazy. Only a couple more months and it will be gone, so just tough it out and stay safe.
I gave my oldest son his Xmas present already. I got him an Xbox360. I still have yet to shop for Xmas for Scott, James and the wife. The wife is already well aware that I need vinyl from Santa. So we're gonna organize that very soon. I'm still waiting on some outstanding freelance invoices to be paid. I guess I need to stop being so nice and get louder about it.
Some great movies coming in theaters that I want to see. Obviously the HOBBIT sequel. Then there's GRUDGE MATCH, basically Raging Bull vs. Rocky Balboa. The trailer looks great. And I saw the trailer for the new Godzilla flick. Very very dope. Its gonna be a great summer next year!
I suppose that is all I have on my plate today for you. Hope it was filling. Nummers! Take care, be safe in the snow and have a good week!

Post-Thanksgiving Blah Blah...
Hey all! Had a good holiday this week. My in-laws came up and ate my cooking for the first time. I made a massive 23 lb turkey, taters, chicken dumplings, corn and biscuits. I could tell they were hesitant at first to try my food but grandpa went up for seconds and grandma finished her whole plate. I think I finally won them over! But it was a good day. I watched the Lions kick the shit out of the Packers, which is always satisfying. We also put our Xmas tree up:
We didn't go out on black friday because money was tight this week. I usually think I can sneak out sometime the night of and get cheap blu-rays but then come home in anger due to rudeness and the lines. But the wife worked and I didn't want to drag the kids out into the cold. Besides, we broke anyway till payday. I got a few freelance and commission people that owe me money and have owed me money for some time now. So I am gonna start squeezing on some of them so that they pay up. I got bills to pay and this shit aint funny. But thats the life of a freelancer I suppose.
In other news, I've tried to stay busy when I can. I wrote a few more pages on my PORN STORE STORIES book. I'm about 30 more pages away from a complete first draft and then I'll work on editing it. I'm leaning towards just sticking with self publishing it, but I am not sure. I'd kind of like to work with another publisher for once and see what sales they can give the book. Its hard to run it all yourself. Would be nice to have someone else step in.
I am also working on art for the TALES OF SEQUENTIAL MAYHEM #3 book:
The art for it is not due till January and its only a quick 8 page story on my end, plus a bit of supplementary material. But I just want it done and out of my way for the big things coming. I got a mini series I was hired to do for a company revolving around a massively popular and historic fictional character and I am starting on that this week. So for now I have been putting out the little fires around me to clear the way for that. I want it to be my best work thus far. If the above is any indication of the direction I am going, then I feel like I am on the right path. I'm trying really hard to pack my panels and not bullshit my backgrounds.
Record Store Day was yesterday as well, and here I am, broke. Some nice vinyl came out too. I'm trying not to think about what I missed out on. Too depressing. But when the money rolls in, I will start buying presents for the family and myself what I really want: VINYL! I got a bunch last payday. Mostly used stuff from Rush, Van Halen, Ratt, UFO and others. But I also scored new sealed copies of NIN's "Pretty Hate Machine" and Tool's "Opiate." So I'm on my way to building my collection back. I got a massive list of albums I want and I am combing ebay, record stores and other sources for them. When the cash hits me, I will load up. And I'll be ready when santa wife gets me the record player I asked for.
Sketch card work has sort of slowed for me. I got two sets on my plate right now. Both of them are pinup girlie related. I think that is fine for me. I dipped my toe into all these cool properties and I had my fun with them. I haven't sent out new samples in a while. Some companies are great to work with, others... not so much. But overall it has been a good experience and it got me some street cred for a while. But I am happy to be on my own again for the most part and free to do my shit. Thats not to say that if I were asked and the right set came along that I might not consider it, cause I might. But I certainly am not looking as much as I once did. But sketch cards have been very very good to me!
And I emailed the folks who pre-ordered the artbook the news, but I have got a quote from the printer and the book will be headed there this next month. I am hoping it have it in time for xmas. Just waiting on a wee bit more cash to cover my overhead and personal copies, cause there is a minimum over the ones that were pre-ordered that I had to place. If you want in on it still and get a nice sketched in ARTBOOK covering my twenty years in comics and art, order now BY CLICKING HERE
I've been pretty quiet on FACEBOOK for a few weeks now and I gotta say that I am loving it. I have less bullcrap in my head and thats always a good thing. I don't feel like I have to reach out as much as I did before. I can do that right here or on my podcast. There's no fighting and no drama. I love it. I go on there about once a day and check out the few people I do pay attention to in my feed. And I only post links to my stuff. Call me a spammer, but thats all I want to say there. Everything else I say via this blog, podcast and my TWITTER account. So plenty of outlets to say what I want to say, and they are more controllable. Making the break from Facebook: Best decision ever.
Lastly, for the adult webcomics people, STARSLAM (adults only) is nearing the end of the third chapter. The fourth is coming up. BIG things are going to be happening. Things will be revealed. Blood will be spilled. Thats all I'm saying. You won't want to miss it! So if you are over 18 and enjoy sexy stories, give it a read, please. Updates every Monday. I should have new PORN WORLD WEEKLY strips sometime soon as well.
I suppose that is it. Thanks for continuing to check back with me. I love you all. Be safe!

Pieces of Vinyl
When I was in college back in 1999-2004, I used to have quite the vinyl record collection. Even before that, I had vinyl. I was of that age. I wasn't into cassettes in the 80s that much, although some of my first albums I bought were on that format. But I began with vinyl. Mostly storybook or movie soundtracks on vinyl. I aquired some of my mom's vinyl for myself. Stuff like the Beatles, Huey Lewis, Billy Joel and others. My first record player was a Michael Jackson record player with a microphone. It looked like this:
Also in the house, we had a cool record player that lit up with disco lights and for a time in college, this was my player. It looked like this:
After that, It was cassettes from 1987-1993. Not many that were store bought. (My first cassette I ever bought was Whitesnake's self-titled album) I taped things off of the radio. Or I held a recorder up to the TV and recorded things that way. I did join BMG for a bit and get the standard 7 cassettes, buy 2 at double the price in two years and get another one free. In 1994, I got my first CD player with my own money I earned from my first job. I started buying Cds. Before my CD days were over, I owned over 400 CDs. I had bought and sold so many, I forgot how many I had aquired. The two CD stores I hit the most were Warehouse Records and New Moon Records in Mt. Pleasant, MI. (RIP to both)
Around college, I started to collect my favorite albums at the time on vinyl. Why? Just to hang on my wall, mostly. I wanted the shelf porn of it. But then I fell in love with a movie called "HIGH FIDELITY." I saw so much of myself in that movie, so much so that I would rank it in my top 3 favorite films of all time, sometimes feeling like it comes in at Number One with a bullet. I was always doing top 5 lists with my friends, I felt elitist with my music and movie tastes. I was overanalyzing relationships I was in. That movie spoke to me on so many levels. And I decided then and there that since I was such a hardcore music fan, I needed to have a vinyl collection. So I started collecting. And I didn't do it for the rarity or money value on certain pressings and all that. I got records I would actually play. They'd range in price from $2-20 each. I had over 100 pieces of vinyl by the time it ended for me. There was a period of 3-4 years where I listened to vinyl exclusively.
Before my mom died, she purchased one of those old style looking radio record players with a radio/cassette in it. It looked something like this:
I listened to my records on that. I also had a back up player with two external speakers that I used when I lived with my close buddy out in the country. Shortly thereafter, I met my wife, got married and he had to condense our things together. I had taken a job as a graphic artist and was bored to death at work all the time. I would bring stacks of Cds to listen to, and my poor records sat in a box, unable to be played. Ignored. Forgotten.
It was then that I learned of a new invention: The Ipod. I could literally bring every CD and my newly discovered love of Podcasts and talk radio with me everywhere I go, mostly to work, where I'd need it the most. So I began investing in ipods. And each time I got a new computer, my HD would crash or I'd get a new Ipod, I had to spend days reuploading all my music.. CD after CD to the HD of the imac to load up the ipod. It was tedious but I loved doing it. Eventually, move after move made me decide to do the inevitable: I had to sell off my vinyl. I didn't want to, but I never used it. It seemed silly to keep bringing it along. And I had Mp3's now. Easier. So off they went to various record stores in exchange for cash or DVDs I wanted. Or fast food money for my gut expansion. RIP my vinyl collection.
Eventually, I let my Cds go too. It seemed that Mp3 had the same sound quality as the CDs and it was impossible to find space for them all. Having them as files in a computer just made sense. So I sold off about 98% of my CDs. I still have about 25 of them. Mostly newer, special edition or remastered or rare ones. And I'll never get rid of them. And thats how I've lived for the last few years. I've even moved on from ipod to the convenience of having an iphone which now doubles as my ipod.
Still, my love of music tugs at me and makes me feel like I turned my back on it all. I felt not like a "real" music fan. I became envious of other people's collections. I just have that shelf porn mentality that I like a collection and enjoying it. But I've really tried to talk myself out of being like that. It's a brain struggle for me. And for the last few years, I don't listen to music as much as I used to. I have drowned in a sea of podcasts, talk radio and other things. My favorite bands only put out new records every five years or more. It sucks. But now the record companies (to stay alive) put out these remastered special editions and they have lit a fire under me to keep my head in the game I love.
Recently, my pal Shane has got into collecting vinyl and through our conversations, I began to recall how much fuller the sound quality is on the wax discs and how its lost on the digital mix, and its true. When you listen to an mp3, you are only getting about 25-30% of the music that was recorded for that song. You think: Someone set up a mic, recorded each part, the ambiance of the room. Its a capture. A window in time to a moment where music came alive and was created. Thats why its called a "Record." Its a record of an event. And I want to hear everything that was recorded that day, in the way it was intended. Its like seeing each brush stroke in a painting in person. The little things, that a recreation print or .jpg pic on google cannot show you. Mp3s are condensed and mixed down to save file space. In fact, it was created long ago when computers were slower and didn't have as big of memory. Now they do, and Mp3s are still the preferred file format and work with everything. Oh there are other options now like FLAC, but again, its a compatability issue. Mp3s vs. Vinyl, its like watching a movie on youtube. yeah, you can watch it, get the gist and its convenient. But If you saw it on Blu-ray, you'll see color changes, make up effects and other things in crystal clear clarity, the way it was intended to be seen.
Think of it this way also: I love to have things in the best possible form I can have them in. Absolute editions, trades, blu-rays. Everything cleaned up, clear, and in the best way possible. Thats why I rebought a lot of my favorite movies on Blu-Ray. Makes sense that I'd want that for my music, right? Now, records capture and show more sound than Mp3s or Cds can (70% more!). Thats simple math right there. Records are the better format. And the reason they still printed by certain bands is because they know that too. The only people that buy records anymore are "TRUE" music fans. Most others just steal it. (I know that will get me in trouble for saying that, but I think its true. You support the artists you can in the ways you can. If you do steal their music, at least go to their shows or buy a shirt. Help them financially so that they can continue to make music. That goes for any artform, okay?) And the good thing about most new records that are released on Vinyl, they always come with downloadable Mp3 links for free. So that appeases convenience of the modern era and sound quality nerds like myself.
I'm a nostalgiac dude. Everything I collect is related to something in my past or something I love that reminds me of the past. I love holding books in my hand. I tried reading digitally on iphone or ipad. Its okay. But nothing beats the smell of old ink in a dollar bin comic book and the feeling of looking at the little trophies on the shelf showing what you conquored. Maybe its vanity. Maybe its silly. But its pieces of me, and I love having it. Also, I look at the things I own as an investment. If something were to happen to me, the wife could pawn these things and have money for them. Its better than wasting money as a gambler, or buying more food to fill my ever expanding gut. I'd rather have things to show for my money.
SO: What do I want to collect? I cannot collect EVERYTHING! I am left asking what is most important to me. I come back to music. Music to me is everything. I must have music. I must enjoy music. I must create music. I must celebrate music. And CDs, MP3s just don't do it for me. I need to hear everything. Every demo. Every outtake. Every bit of sound I am meant to hear. I want to experience it in the old ways. The style in which it was created. And I even need to hear the needle sound when it hits that wax disc and starts to spin and play. I need to hold the album and dissect the cover. I need to read the lyrics along with it, taking it all in. THATS how I celebrate music. Thats how I need it to be. For me. For me.
I think back to my early days and how I was happy with vinyl. How the sound effected me. When I didn't look for things in my life to be so convenient and clean. How when I was depressed, I could toss on a Dylan record and clean my house and feel better about it. Having the tiny ear buds in my ear and accidently hitting stop on the iphone in my pocket just doesn't feel the same. I've never liked it. I want the music in the air around me. I want others to hear it. I want my kids to hear it, and know why I love it so much.
All this comes down to a simple mathmatic decision: I'm collecting vinyl again. I want it all back and more. I want to keep celebrating music in my own way. And my way is vinyl. Its an old format, but its the best. They'll never quit making them, so long as us musicophiles exist. And we're not going away anytime soon. I've also come to the realization that my favorite bands are either breaking up, broke up or dead. And nothing much new is coming that excites me like my music eras did. So I will have my favorite albums of those times in the best form I can. And when I am gone, my kids can pawn my vinyl for cigarettes and hookers. OR maybe cue up the needle and drop it on a disc too and see a part of me they never heard before. They can connect with what I hear and feel when I hear my favorite songs and artists. Cause thats what music is to me. A doorway into the soul. And for my soul, I want the best I can get. Not for the trophies or the bragging rights of a shelf of nice vinyl, but the best key I can get to open the doors to the soul.
Hope you enjoyed reading this. Cheers!
P.s. Some of my thoughts on this same vein were talked about in the outstanding documentary called "SOUND CITY." Get it, watch it. Expand on these thoughts. Enjoy.
P.s.s. I currently don't have a vinyl record player. I let my friend borrow my mothers that she gave me, but we have since had a falling out and I am not likely getting that player back. So: I asked "santa wife" for one for Xmas. She will get me one I am sure. Meanwhile, I'm starting the collection now. Preparing....
P.s.s.s. The "Pieces of Vinyl" statements here are an inside joke to Stern fans cause Gary Dell'abate from the show refers to his collection as "Pieces of Vinyl" and Howard gave him a ton of shit for it. Now I call it that out of fun.
