I'm BACK!

 Hello friends. It's been a whiiiiiiillle.......

 

A few years ago I moved all operations from here to my Patreon site. Its been good there and I've had support there for years. However, most of the stuff there is NSFW focused and I was missing hitting a more safe for work friendly exposure. So I decided to start seperating the two. I will return to regular posts/blogs/info here and mostly use the Patreon for NSFW comics. 

Whats going on at the Patron exactly? Well, Ive got over SIX YEARS of content there! Over 72 stories and right now I am doing a long form erotica comic there called CONFESSIONS. It is ramping up toward its major conclusion that will drop later this year. But for now, it still updates monthly, along with smutty pinups and other things. While I'm on the subject of smut, let me reveal that I am remastering/retooling my STARSLAM comics! See, the first book was originally a webcomic, that premiered right here at my faithful old website! I collected it into a book and it sold well. So I did 3 more books and they were all vertical! So the art didn't match. Plus the art is over 10 years old! I was coming up on the anniversary so I decided to try and retool the original book and make it vertical. But then I found a way to just completely REDRAW the whole thing digitally and change the colors and style to my current liking. If this goes well, I will remaster the other three books. I won't have to redraw them, but I will fix mistakes, change a few things and work on the colors so they all match! I'll launch a Kickstarter for the retooled/remastered STARSLAM book 1 this summer! Here's a safe for work peek at a couple of the new pages! 

 So, last year I relaunched my comedy/drama book about geeks and their relationships: PLEASANT LIFE! I did a 500 page graphic novel for these characters 20 years ago, using stories inspired from my own life! Well, its many years later and I wanted to catch up with them. So I started doing an ongoing series! I launched issue 1 via kickstarter last year and then I just did a kickstarter for issues 2-3! I'll do another Kickstarter for issues 4-5 this summer as well! (I'm a goddamn machine!) Here's a look at all three covers:

I'll be doing two appearances this year celebrating my 30th year in comics and selfpublishing! Coming up next is an appearance at Summit Comics in downtown Lansing, MI for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I'll have my books and be doing free sketches for the kids! Info At their Facebook page HERE!

Beyond that, things have been good for me. I'm still rockin' and rollin' and kicking ass. Still podcasting! (Search for IDIOTHEAD MORNING SHOW on Itunes and subscribe, its FREE!) and doing all sorts of comics and art. I just uploaded a bunch of personal sketchbook stuff on my Facebook page and Instagram page. You're welcome to follow/add me there.

Hey friends! I got some big news...

I finally have a place to celebrate my 25th year doing comics and its a really special one. I will be a guest at the FANTASTICON in my hometown of Mt. Pleasant, MI on Oct 19-20th! I'm actually making a weekend of it by going in early and checking out my old stomping grounds for a bit. I am really excited about the show. I can think of no better place to celebrate what has been a long and very rewarding run at doing indie comics. I am HOPING to have Pleasant Life 2 there but its not looking likely as I have many things in front of it. (Pleasant Life takes place in my home town!) We have a few months before that comes along and so much to do before then. I'm sure I will whip up something by then. 

 

I do have feelers out for something smaller and more local to Lansing in May possibly, but I haven't confirmed it yet. We shall see what happens. All I do is chase the whimsies and see what I can do.

This week will be a busy one. I got about six commissions to finish and I gotta get ahead on some artworking for Patreon and the big project. Plus I gotta finalize LATE NIGHT SHORTS, which is still on Kickstarter until April 20th. Check that out right here:

Well here we are, the last day of the year!

2018 has been a year of ups and downs. But better than 2017 was! 2019 is already starting to shape up to be a great year to come! In 2019 I will be celebrating my 25th year in self-publishing. I will have several new releases including:

--PLEASANT LIFE 2
--A NOVEL! I'm not saying which one, but finally!!!! One of them is coming out.

Refining

Oi fellow Mac N Cheese eaters and those who don't eat Mac N Cheese. I think that covers everyone, right?

Busy, is an understatement. I've got a lot going and man, I need a vacation. Its getting fucking brutal. Starting off with everything Kickstarter related. Right now, it stands at over $1,200. Almost TRIPLE what we asked for! Only a handful of days left so act quick! Note: The TALES FROM THE GORE book WILL NOT be available in my online store after the Kickstarter ends. So this is pretty much the only way to get it from me. I will not have any copies to sell you. If you track down 12 Gauge Gore at a horror show, you could find one. But from me? Nope. After the Kickstarter ends, Olya and I will be busy with your commissions and then once the books are here, we got books to do sketches in! So we will be busy all March and part of April getting these things done. I haven't spoken to her but we are all thrilled with how well the Kickstarter for Caleb's book is doing. Thanks everyone who has pledged and supported! It means more than you know. This is not just any other book I've done. It represents so much more.

Well, I registered my hotel so now I am 100% locked in for Chicago Exxxotica in June. More on that later. I am also sooooooo ready for a vacation!!! I'll be taking next month to Horrorhound Cincinnati. We will have limited copies of the TALES FROM THE GORE at the 12 Gauge Gore booth but mostly its time for me to walk around and enjoy myself. Its also my girlfriend and I's one year anniversary at the show! Interestingly enough, I put my deposit down for my first tattoo that I will be getting at the show! Its a Caleb tribute piece I've been talking about doing for months now and I chose the right person and place to do it, I think. Its about time I get some ink on this old body. Looking forward to the trip. I'll have plenty of pics and video to share when I come back. Less than a month away! I need it!!!

I really have been running around ragged lately. Overtime, job, artworking, kids, cats, etc. Its been crazy. Right now, one of our fur babies, Belle, is severely sick and we gotta take her in tomorrow to get looked at. I hope its nothing too serious. Even though they fight, I think Lily is a bit upset at her friend being sick:

This weekend I was able to do some inking on Starslam 3 pages. I also refined the script a bit, adding some new elements and deleting some others. I basically streamlined it and got rid of some stuff that I didn't think was working. I think now its much tighter and makes way more sense. I'm still 50 pages in but I got my next 30 plotted out. I'll pull reference and start pencils this week. I should have a batch this week to toss to Andy for coloring as well. Might as well get this baby out the door while I got the fire to get to rolling.

I also have commissions to work on and a few other things on the TO DO list. But I'm still rockin' it. Not much else to say. Just get it done. Do what I can. Make it happen. The nice weather this week has been a welcome bonus to my day too. Helps remind me that the sun is still willing to welcome me to a new day of trying. I'm busy refining my work and my life approach. Its not an overnight thing. More a lifelong thing.

What I feel like right now

Hello my friends, welcome back.

I try to keep content rolling here at my website. I recorded a 30 minute podcast celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. Listen for free right HERE - Meanwhile the blogging continues. During down months when I am working on stuff, I try to keep everyone in the loop. I will say very soon that there will be some adjustments to how I do things and the longtime fans will be rewarded. Especially those who like the more erotica side of things I do. Like I said, before the year is out, an announcement will come. Til then, consider yourselves blue-balled and teased.

I'm working on TWO books at once, with the possibility of two more in the wings when I feel like it. Plus the secret thing. So really, FIVE projects at once. I'm allowing myself to sorta chase whatever I feel like doing the day of and see what comes. Its honestly, no good way to work. But its what I feel like right now.

A lot of shit has happened this year. Extreme ups and downs. Meeting great new people, going to places, making plans for the future, a move, a relationship change, a death of a close friend, working over 40 hours weekly, etc. Its honestly been a whirlwind. I never get any time to "myself" anymore. But the other night I did. Kitty D and I sat and watched three flicks: Uncle Buck (which I'd never seen. I give it a solid B), Evil Dead 2 (which she never had seen. Top 20 movie for me) and Night of the Creeps (which is good. Solid B+). The next day I was so giddy and refreshed to have taken a time out to just sit and veg on some movies. I never get to do that anymore. Always going going going. In many ways, I'm exhausted. But I don't know how else to be.

Since my friend died, my diet has stalled. We're slowly trying to find a new routine at the new place. Things are finally settling and we're getting our shit done. That is important. The next two weeks we are taking some much needed vacations. One is unexpected, to Horrorhound Indianapolis, where I am helping out on the fundraiser for Caleb's family. The next weekend is the drive inn two day camping trip that Caleb, Joe and and all our girl's planned to go to before all the shit went down. We're still going, to honor our friend. I'm sure the next two weekends will present a lot of fun and great times. But also there will be emotions involved. I feel like I have to do these things. To help out, to honor those who we carry with us and also that our lives should be a celebration and do continue. His presence will certainly be felt there.

The addition of a colorist for Starslam 3 has given me some newfound excitement for the project. Not that it was waning before, but I know there is a lot to draw. Some challenging scenes to do and I wasn't looking forward to coloring it all! But now I can focus on making each page the best I can deliver. Really make this book go out with a bang! And with Pleasant Life 2, I'm doing a lot of Mortin pages... perfect way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of STAR TREK. It's my way, I guess.

There are so many pots on my oven and they are all boiling. I hope I can continue to clear the cobwebs in my mind and in my body the next two weeks so I can fuel the rocket to speed off and kick some ass on these things. I don't need another thing to worry about. I feel like for the first time in months my forward view is clearing up a bit. Some things I am angry about just don't feel as bad anymore. I kinda know my place in all these things now. Anger and bitterness just don't happen anymore about all this creative stuff. I was carrying a lot of baggage about it. Stuff I won't get into. But the other night I had some drunken clarity that I know who I am, what I can do and what I want to do with everything. My mind is always racing and such a jumble sometimes. And now that I got some stability with Kitty D's help, support from all around and final clarity on what I want to do with all these ideas in my head, I know I can truly move forward in all things. Mental, physical and creatively.

Like I said, this has been a hard year so far. But I've been through worse.

Right now, I just feel like the match is lit and the wick is sparkling. Its travelling down to the rocket as we speak. But it won't explode. It will shoot off and be a spectacular show. As I wind down this thing and wrestle me and my head to the ground..... finally!

But first, we are celebrating this weekend. We are fundraising this weekend. We are kicking some ass, THIS WEEKEND AT HORRORHOUND INDIANAPOLIS!

All day long at the 12 Gauge Gore booth on Saturday, there will be a silent auction and raffles galore. Some GREAT prizes to get. Details and pics of the prizes are HERE ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE! And from 2-7pm on Saturday the 10th I will set up at the booth and do drawings for donations. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Stevens Family. Beyond that, we're going to dance, drink, shop and be merry. We're going to celebrate life, our friends, horror movies and be with just cool fucking people.

One thing I've learned over my 38 years on this planet: You never know what tomorrow will bring. Live every day as if its your only day. Treat everyone you meet with respect and love. Reach out to your friends and family when you can. Let them know you care. Don't let time and distance get in the way. And chase the whimsies and dreams. Doesn't matter what success you have with it. At least you did it. In short, LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING.

So go do it.

MOTOR CITY CON RECAP!!!

Hey everyone! I'm back from an EXHAUSTING weekend at Motor City Comic Con. Seriously, the busiest show I have ever been at there. Wall to wall, packed. It was indeed overwhelming. While lots of people I asked said, and I would agree, that doesn't exactly mean we came home with bags of money. We did okay. I didn't sell any books, except for the con exclusive Coloring Book. Mostly prints, commissions, original art, etc. Not bad overall! Here's a recap of my weekend:

THURSDAY:

Comedian Brian Posehn was signing at a local comic store here in Lansing. I got in there, got a poster signed and got out and headed to work. He seemed shy and/or jetlagged so I didn't bother him for a photo. But I got a cool screen printed poster personalized from him. Will go nicely on my wall someday. I went to work, took on the looooong shift and finally got home around midnight, took care of some last minute things and then passed out.

FRIDAY:
Woke up at 6:30am and made us breakfast and then we headed out. We got there quite early and set up. I ran into Brett, Jay, Kelly and a few other friends. Pals of mine from Lansing came out and scored some art and books from me too (Thanks Guys!) I did a commission for Jeff and went through the day just kinda tired overall. Sold fairly well. I made a note of a MST3K bot shop in the dealer area and promised myself that if I did well I would get one. So then we left, checked into the hotel, hit RED ROBIN for some much needed eats. Then back to the hotel, got our drink on and vegged out in our living room suite. Spending a nice night in each other's company. Passed out around midnight.

SATURDAY:

We woke up, grabbed coffee and bagels and headed to the show. Immediately we were floored with how busy it was! It would take you a half hour just to walk to the bathroom and get in there! We sold decently well and I got myself a treat I've wanted for a long time. Then to TGI Fridays for some post-con grub, then a relaxing dip in the pool. Then drinks with Matt until I passed out around midnight!

My pal Matt brought his nieces to the show, their first con! I Think they had a good time... although one doesn't like her photo taken, obviously!

I drew them both thier favorite doctors. Here's the 10th one. The Matt Smith photo was blurry.

Another pal from Lansing, Joe came with his daughter Sophia for a daddy daughter day. When leaving he asked her what the highlight of the trip was. She said, "Easily, seeing Adam by far!" Made my day!!

I drew Sophie a... whatever this is... from Minecraft I guess. Glad she liked it!

I've always wanted a robot and now I got one! Meet Tom Servo, who came home with me and now will help me get through all the cheesy movies... the worst I can find.... tra-la-la!

SUNDAY: Honestly, I was beat. It was a busy busy weekend, so I was looking forward to a nice quieter Sunday. But boy was I wrong! Just about the same amount came through the doors as Saturday!!! Whew! But sales were better Sunday than Saturday. I barely left my table!

So now I'm home. Safe. Final thoughts: I enjoyed coming back to Motor City after a long hiatus. I saw people there I hadn't seen in a long time and fans came back to say hi and catch up. It didn't translate to any new book sales though, but it was good to let them know that I am still kicking! I sold a lot of prints and art and that was good. I do say now that I am retiring the art prints for good and now am only focusing on books.... meaning that pop culture shows like Motor City aren't my crowd for that anymore. The times have changed and with it, I must change too. I had a great time and will return again someday, but for now, I want to focus on MY characters... not ones I don't own. And there are plenty of print people doing that stuff for me. I will visit in the future but starting in 2017, I'm gonna hit some small press shows. I would like to cultivate readers.

I loved the trip and it was a much needed vacation. I made some scratch and caught up with old friends. I had fans come visit that I met well over a decade ago at this show and it was great to reconnect with them. One fan, who said he is an avid reader of my blog said something that stuck with me: "Thanks for sharing your life with us." That statement alone, me hearing that, made my weekend. Thank you.

But for now, I'm reeling from the craziness of it all. I'm ready to enjoy some quiet! Gonna stay away from pop culture shows for a bit. But I might visit again someday!
